Position Overview
As a Kennel Technician, you will play a key role in providing exceptional care to the dogs in our facility while delivering outstanding customer service to our clients. This is a physically demanding, hands-on position that requires attention to detail, consistency, and a strong work ethic.
This is a growth-track position, intentionally designed to develop reliable, motivated employees into higher-skill roles within the company, including Enrichment Specialist and other advanced positions. This role is not intended to remain a static, long-term entry-level position, nor is it suited for candidates seeking temporary, limited, or fixed-schedule work.

The Kennel Technician role serves as the foundation for advancement within Right Way K9 Training. Team members who demonstrate reliability, coachability, professionalism, and a genuine interest in dog behavior and care will be trained for increased responsibility, skill development, and expanded hours.
Employees who successfully progress through this role may advance into positions such as Enrichment Specialist, where they will participate in structured enrichment activities, supervised dog handling, and additional specialized care responsibilities. Employees who demonstrate high-level competence, professionalism, reliability, and a passion for learning have the potential to eventually advance into dog training or management positions long-term.
Key Responsibilities
Customer Service
- Check dogs in and out during drop-off and pick-up
- Greet clients professionally and maintain a friendly, welcoming atmosphere
- Assist clients with retail purchases when needed
Dog Care
- Provide food, water, and medications according to instructions
- Ensure dogs receive regular potty breaks
- Monitor dogs for signs of stress, illness, or injury and report concerns to management
Facility Maintenance
- Keep crates, pens, and dog areas clean, dry, and comfortable
- Maintain cleanliness throughout the facility, including the lobby, bathrooms, dog run, social floor, training rooms, and other work areas
Teamwork
- Work collaboratively with team members to ensure smooth daily operations
- Communicate clearly and professionally with staff regarding dog care and facility needs
Additional Responsibilities
- Groom dogs for hygiene and safety when necessary
- Assist with deep-cleaning tasks to maintain a high standard of sanitation and facility presentation
Qualifications
Education
- High School Diploma or equivalent
Experience
- No prior experience required; comprehensive training is provided
Skills and Traits
- Basic computer and phone skills
- Strong literacy (reading & writing) and basic math skills
- Comfort working around dogs of various sizes, breeds, and temperaments
- Friendly, warm, team-oriented, dependable, and professional attitude
- Strong willingness to learn and accept coaching
Schedule and Commitment Requirements
- Open availability is required
- Must be available during operating hours: 6:00 AM – 10:00 PM, 7 days a week, 365 days a year
- This position starts part-time and is intended to transition to full-time as skills, knowledge, and performance develop
- Candidates must be committed to long-term growth and advancement within the company
- Limited availability or applicants seeking minimal weekly hours are not a good fit for this role
Physical Requirements
- Standing and walking for extended periods during 8.5-hour shifts
- Frequent bending, kneeling, and cleaning tasks
- Occasional lifting up to 25 lbs
Work Environment
- Primarily based in a training, boarding, and daycare facility
- Regular interaction with dogs and clients
- Occasional outdoor exposure for potty breaks and client check-ins
- Fast-paced environment with occasional challenging situations requiring calm, professional handling
