PHARMACY TECHNICIAN
REPORTS TO: Pharmacy Manager
JOB FUNCTION: Under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist, compounds and dispenses medical prescriptions. May be expected to perform some clerical duties relating to the department. Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. Must be familiar with a variety of the field’s concepts, practices, and procedures. Rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Perform a variety of complicated tasks. May lead and direct the work of others. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.
QUALIFICATIONS: Must have strong “multi-tasking” skills, analytical skills and attention to detail. Must have knowledge of drugs and their indications, contraindications, dosing, side effects, and proper administration. Must have the ability to analyze pharmacy related data, and ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards. Must possess mobility to safely work and move about in a pharmacy setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer. Must be able to stand for extended periods of time. Manual dexterity is required to manipulate small objects such as using a keyboard or counting pills. Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds. Must have knowledge of policies and regulations pertaining to the disbursement of pharmaceutical drugs. Must be able to concentrate and maintain attention to detail despite frequent interruptions.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Observe all store rules and company policies.
- Maintain a neat, well-groomed personal appearance at all times and observe company dress regulations.
- Greet all customers and provide them with prompt and courteous exceptional service.
- Observe shift-operating hours at all times as scheduled by department manager.
- Promote customer good will by providing high standards of customer service.
- Answer the pharmacy department phone in a prompt and courteous manner.
- Record the pharmaceutical purchases of a customer into a cash register efficiently and accurately.
- Maintain general housekeeping and sanitation standards in compliance with store policy and state and local health regulations on a regular, ongoing basis.
- Follow approved procedures for ordering and stocking pharmaceuticals.
- Assist the pharmacist in counting, pouring, mixing, labeling, compounding, and dispensing pharmaceuticals.
- Accurate and efficient computer operations including insurance posting, billing and reconciling.
- Compile pharmacy reports as requested by pharmacists and management.
- Handle Protected Health Information (PHI) and is therefore required to adhere to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and the information security guidelines outlined in the Company HIPAA Compliance Manual
- Assist in training pharmacy personnel.
- Read, write, hear, and speak.
- Add, subtract, multiply, and divide.
- Perform other duties and assignments as directed by management.
