JOB SUMMARY:
The Director of Fitness at Ridglea Country Club oversees the daily operations, team members, programming, member experience, and financial performance of the Fitness Center. This position ensures a clean, safe, welcoming environment and delivers high-quality fitness and wellness services to members and their guests. The Director upholds all Club policies and safety standards while shaping a member-focused, service-driven fitness culture.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
General Administration & Compliance
- Maintain thorough working knowledge of Club policies and guidelines as outlined in the Ridglea Country Club Employee Handbook and Orientation Guide
- Ensure compliance with all Club rules, policies, and safety standards
- Maintain accurate documentation, records, forms, and departmental files
- Oversee daily facility readiness, including opening and closing procedures
Team member Leadership & Human Resources
- Provide daily leadership and management of Fitness Center team members, including interviewing, hiring, onboarding, scheduling, supervising, evaluating, disciplining, and dismissing employees as needed
- Oversee all personal trainers, group instructors, contract instructors, massage therapists, and physical therapists to ensure performance standards are met
- Communicate with trainers through regular meetings and coaching
- Order and manage staff uniforms
Fitness, Wellness & Program Management
- Serve as the Club’s fitness expert, guiding the development of a high-quality fitness and wellness culture
- Design, implement, and manage fitness, wellness, massage therapy, and physical therapy programming
- Oversee group exercise programming and instruct classes as needed
- Conduct member orientation appointments, including BLE-ID access setup and completion of required health and release documentation
- Assist members with equipment usage, technique instruction, and class/trainer recommendations
- Assign new members to personal trainers as applicable
- Maintain monthly program calendars and newsletter content
- Market programs, update flyers, door notices, and digital promotional materials (including TV slideshow)
- Maintain fitness-related website content and calendar
Member Relations & Service
- Greet members and guests, fostering a welcoming and service-oriented Fitness Center environment
- Provide tours, answer questions, and ensure exceptional member service at all times
- Register out-of-town guests and process guest fee charges
- Foster a positive and professional culture among staff and members
Facility & Equipment Management
- Ensure the Fitness Center is clean, organized, and fully prepared for daily operations
- Coordinate with Maintenance for general facility issues
- Monitor the workout and multipurpose rooms to prevent accidents and ensure safe member use
- Recommend and order new fitness equipment or accessories within the approved budget
Financial Management
- Manage the annual Fitness Center operating budget, monthly financial reports, and capital requests
- Oversee revenue generation through personal training, programs, and services
- Bill all personal training hours accurately and submit billing to Accounts Payable weekly
- Track and report Fitness Center usage statistics, personal training activity, and performance data
Committee & Club Leadership
- Collaborate with the Assistant General Manager and Fitness Chairman to prepare agendas for Pool & Fitness Committee Meetings
- Attend all Pool & Fitness Committee meetings
- Coordinate with other Club departments to support integrated operations and service excellence
Safety & Training
- Maintain the Fitness First Aid Kit and all Club AEDs
- Coordinate CPR training and certification for Fitness Center staff
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred, or 4–8 years of relevant experience in fitness management or related fields.
- Certified Trainer
- Knowledge of fitness equipment, wellness programming, and industry standards.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
- General understanding of budgeting and financial management.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, and overtime when required.
- Outgoing, professional, and service-oriented personality.
- Strong team player with the ability to collaborate across departments.
- Willingness to perform additional duties as assigned.
- Ability to stand, walk, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and/or sit for up to 10 hours per day.
- Ability to use hands and fingers to operate fitness equipment and tools.
- Ability to reach with hands and arms.
- Hearing and speaking ability sufficient for communication with members, guests, and staff.
- Vision abilities include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 30 lbs.
- Ability to move safely and independently throughout the Clubhouse.
