Brief Description

Purpose of Job

This position is responsible for providing leadership for the delivery of safe, effective, and efficient nursing care in accordance with the Standards of Nursing Care and Practice as defined by Ridgeview Medical Center, the Minnesota Nurse Practice Act and the American Nurses Association Standards of Clinical Nursing Practice. Assumes 24-hour responsibility and accountability for managing the intraoperative unit of the Ridgeview Orthopedic Institute, to include personnel, budget, organization, and development of the units.

Job Functions

  • Provides leadership and oversight of the nursing unit. Provides leadership assistance to the Sterile Processing Department. Supports the department director through development of programs, goals and objectives consistent with those of the organization's overall strategic plan and initiatives.
  • Manages staff resources by overseeing the recruiting, selecting, hiring and orienting qualified individuals. Evaluates staff performance in an accurate, consistent, objective and timely manner. Develops core position hiring strategies and ensures opportunities for professional development. Creates a cohesive department committed to providing distributive, clinical and service quality to all customers.
  • Manages operating expenses and key indicators within the budget for unit. Supports department director in quality improvement efforts and service delivery that contributes to the overall success and financial viability of nursing unit.
  • Reviews and monitors applicable policies and procedures. As assigned, ensures compliance with local, state and federal regulatory standards.
  • Maintains clinical competencies and/or knowledge in accord with the scope and responsibility of the position.
  • May participate on organizational and medical staff committees and serve as a professional resource for physicians, clinicians and leadership. May also collaborate with physicians and clinicians regarding programs and services. May represent Ridgeview Medical Center in community outreach including participation on committees and presenting to groups.
  • Proactively identifies and acts upon improvement projects and opportunities through observation, data analysis, engagement with partners, review of external impact factors and best practices, as well as ongoing communication with leadership and staff.
  • Manages and coordinates the daily activities of responsible units and provides support unit to Sterile Processing Department to ensure efficient and effective operations. Demonstrates adaptability and flexibility in adjusting to new and changing priorities and work situations.
  • Holds staff accountable for utilizing the nursing process in the provision of nursing care. Responsible for personal and professional development to ensure current knowledge and performance in the profession/position and the promotion of professional growth of others.
  • Plans, develops, monitors, and maintains annual capital equipment budget for unit.
  • Establishes, monitors, and enforces standards for department risk management, safety and security in accordance with RMC safety/Risk Management Committee.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education/Work Experience

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • Bachelors Degree in Nursing
  • 3-5 years of recent and relevant OR experience

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Demonstrate critical thinking and decision making
  • Ability to meet and maintain the necessary background checks as aligned with position functions
  • Ability to communicate in the English language for effective written and verbal correspondence to complete job functions as mentioned above
  • Capable of making independent decisions with the use of good critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work and multi-task in a high stress and fast paced environment
  • Ability to respond appropriately to unpredictable situations and diverse patient populations

License/Certifications

  • Current professional nurse licensure in Minnesota or if licensed in another state, a permit from the Minnesota Board of Nursing while the license application is in process
  • BLS certification

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree Preferred
  • Certification in perioperative/perianesthesia, nursing (e.g., CNOR, CSSM, CNAMB, CFPN, CPAN, CAPA), or willing to acquire within 12-months of hire
  • Two years (full time) or Orthopedic Team/Service Line Lead, Surgery Unit Lead, Assistant Nurse Manager/Supervisor, or Nurse Manager experience

Many factors are taken into consideration when determining compensation such as: the requirements of the position, experience, education, knowledge, and skills along with location and internal equity. Pay listed does not include any shift, weekend, or other differentials.

Salary : $109,774 - $151,917
