Job Summary
The Finance Secretary manages the income side of finances for RUMC, which includes tracking donations, making deposits, and providing reports to the Pastor and the Finance Committee. The Finance Secretary has oversight for confidentiality of donor information and provides critical input to the Bookkeeper, Finance Committee Chair and Pastor for monitoring the health of the church’s finances. The Finance Secretary reports to the Finance Committee Chair and Pastor of RUMC.
Responsibilities
Supervise the offering count, promptly deposit cash from offerings in the bank in accordance with procedures established by the Committee on Finance, and give a record of each deposit to the Treasurer/Bookkeeper.
Train, schedule, and supervise the Counters designated by the Finance Committee.
Oversee the E360 on-line giving platform and providing weekly reports to the Bookkeeper.
Maintain donor database and record contributions in a timely manner tracking donations by purpose/fund; provide weekly and monthly reports on giving for total and fund accounts.
Provide donors with annual (required) and quarterly (if relevant) giving statements.
Manage the Confidentiality/Disclosure statements from the Counters and others with
responsibility for aspects of the day-to-day finances.
Work with the Pastor and communicate patterns in giving as requested to monitor the health of the RUMC community.
Support the Finance Committee Chair and Pastor in annual reports and audits, and other aspects of financial giving as needed.
Requirements
This is a sensitive position requiring and understanding of confidentiality and respect for church donors.
The position required detailed work and accuracy with numerical data.
Experience with excel spreadsheets and database entry is required.
Good communication skills and ability to work in a team environment
Not required to be a church member, but if a congregant, cannot also be Treasurer or be an immediate family member of the person who holds the position as Treasurer at RUMC.
Supports the annual audit, but should not be on the audit committee, or the contact person for donors who have questions about discrepancies on donor statements, and should be open to input when discrepancies are found.
