What are the responsibilities and job description for the Operations Director - Evergreen Ambulance Service position at Ride Connection?

Ride Connection is thrilled to introduce Evergreen Ambulance Service, an exciting new venture that expands our mission and deepens our impact in the community. We’re seeking a dynamic, visionary Operations Director who’s inspired by the opportunity to build a service from the ground up—delivering safe, reliable, and patient-centered non-emergency ambulance transportation.

This is a unique chance to combine the energy and creativity of launching a new program with the stability, support, and trusted reputation of an established nonprofit. As Operations Director, you’ll be at the heart of shaping Evergreen Ambulance Service—designing strong operations, championing clinical excellence, strengthening financial sustainability, and building community confidence in this essential new service.

Why Join Evergreen and Ride Connection?

For more than thirty years, Ride Connection has delivered safe, accessible, and compassionate transportation throughout the Portland region. With Evergreen Ambulance Service, we’re elevating that mission by meeting a critical community need for high-quality, mission-driven ambulance transport.

As Operations Director, you won’t just be stepping into a role—you’ll be creating something lasting. You’ll build systems, lead and inspire a passionate team, and forge partnerships that set the foundation for long-term success. This is an ideal opportunity for a motivated, relationship-driven leader who thrives in an entrepreneurial environment while embracing the collaboration, support, and mission-centered culture of a respected nonprofit.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead the launch and ongoing operations of Evergreen Ambulance Service.
  • Design and implement strategies for growth, quality, and financial sustainability.
  • Partner with Ride Connection leadership and the Medical Director to ensure clinical excellence and regulatory compliance.
  • Oversee budgets, contracts, and performance targets while identifying opportunities for innovation and expansion.
  • Recruit, mentor, and support staff through training, coaching, and workforce development.
  • Build strong relationships with community partners and stakeholders to expand impact and establish Evergreen as a trusted service provider.

What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in Paramedicine, Business/Healthcare Administration, Emergency Preparedness, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of healthcare or ambulance operations experience, with at least 3 years in leadership.
  • Current NREMT certification and Oregon EMT license (required).
  • Demonstrated ability to launch or scale programs, manage complex operations, and deliver measurable results.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
  • Valid Oregon Driver’s License and BLS certification (American Heart Association or Red Cross).

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Master’s degree or advanced certifications (CAM, CEM, etc.).
  • Experience in start-up or program development environments.
  • Strong background in budget management, contracts, and revenue-generating strategies.
  • Familiarity with state and federal ambulance regulations and healthcare operations.

Physical Requirements

This role includes operational oversight and, at times, hands-on field involvement, which may involve:

  • Lifting and carrying equipment and assisting with patient transport.
  • Driving an ambulance safely in varied conditions.
  • Performing fine motor skills and clinical tasks in fast-moving, high-pressure environments.

Compensation & Benefits

We offer a comprehensive and competitive benefits package, including:

  • Generous paid time off—accruing up to 140 hours within your first three years, with increases over time.
  • Six paid holidays, plus MLK Day of Service and a Juneteenth Day of Learning.
  • 60 hours of sick leave annually.
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance.
  • 403(b) retirement plan with automatic employer contribution plus a match up to 2%.
  • Flexible Spending Account (FSA) with up to $500 employer contribution each year.
  • Employee Assistance Program, wellness resources, and opportunities for professional development.

What We Offer

  • The rare chance to build a new ambulance service from the ground up while supported by a respected nonprofit with 30 years of success.
  • A collaborative and mission-driven work environment.
  • The opportunity to leave a lasting legacy in shaping the future of ambulance services for the community.
