Heavy Duty Diesel Mechanic (Afternoon Shift) Tues-Saturday
Ricova is seeking a skilled and reliable Heavy Duty Diesel Mechanic to support the ongoing maintenance and reliability of our garbage truck fleet. As part of the Maintenance team, this role is focused on preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and efficient repair execution to ensure maximum uptime and safe operation of all equipment.
This is a hands-on role requiring strong mechanical ability, particularly in diesel engines, hydraulics, and refuse equipment systems. The position is for the afternoon/evening shift (Tues-Fri 1:00 PM – 9:00 PM, Sat 7-4pm) and plays a key role in maintaining fleet readiness for daily operations.
Key Responsibilities
Preventive Maintenance & Repairs
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on garbage trucks and heavy-duty diesel vehicles (PM services, oil changes, filters, fluid checks, etc.).
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues with minimal downtime.
- Service components including engines, transmissions, differentials, brakes, suspension, and steering systems.
- Troubleshoot and repair refuse-specific equipment, including packer bodies, compaction systems, PTOs, and hydraulic lift mechanisms.
- Identify potential failures early and proactively address issues to prevent breakdowns.
Fleet Reliability & Safety
- Ensure all equipment is maintained to DOT compliance and company safety standards.
- Address defects reported through inspections (DVIRs) in a timely and organized manner.
- Follow all safety procedures, including proper PPE usage and safe work practices.
- Complete repairs to manufacturer specifications and industry standards.
Maintenance Tracking & Coordination
- Accurately document all work performed in the company’s fleet maintenance system.
- Communicate repair status, downtime, and parts requirements clearly to supervisors and team members.
- Coordinate with parts personnel to ensure timely ordering and availability of required components.
- Work closely with operations to prioritize repairs and keep trucks in service.
Shop Operations
- Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient work environment.
- Assist with road calls and breakdowns as needed.
- Support team workflow during shift transitions by clearly communicating outstanding work.
- Perform light fabrication or welding when required.
Qualifications
- 2 years of experience as a Heavy Duty or Diesel Mechanic.
- Strong hands-on experience with refuse trucks, heavy-duty equipment, or similar fleets preferred.
- Solid understanding of diesel engines, hydraulics, air brake systems, and electrical diagnostics.
- Ability to read and interpret schematics, service manuals, and diagnostic software.
- Proficient with diagnostic tools and standard shop equipment.
- Valid driver’s license (CDL Class B preferred).
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in a shop and outdoor environment.

Pay: $55,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
