Anticipated SLP at Richmond Elementary School

Richmond Elementary School Anticipates hiring a Speech Language Pathologist for the 2026-27 school year. 

This position works with students in preschool through 2nd grade who have speech and language issues to diagnose and treat conditions that affect the student’s ability to communicate. This position works within the Vermont licensing standards for Speech Language Pathologist’s (SLP’s), Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and other MMUUSD policies and legal mandates. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Adhere to professional, ethical and legal standards of practice. 
• Monitor students' progress and adjust treatments accordingly.
• Evaluate hearing and speech/language test results and medical or background information to diagnose and plan treatment for speech, language, fluency, voice, and swallowing disorders.
• Administer hearing or speech/language evaluations, tests, or examinations to students to collect information on type and degree of impairments, using written and oral tests and special instruments.
• Record information on the initial evaluation, treatment, progress, and discharge of clients.
• Develop and implement treatment plans for problems such as stuttering, delayed language, swallowing disorders, and inappropriate pitch or harsh voice problems, based on own assessments and recommendations of physicians, psychologists, and social workers.
• Develop individual or group programs in schools to deal with speech or language problems.
• Instruct clients in techniques for more effective communication, including sign language, lip reading, and voice improvement.
• Teach clients to control or strengthen tongue, jaw, face muscles, and breathing mechanisms.
• Develop speech exercise programs to reduce disabilities.
• Consult with and advise educators or medical staff on speech or hearing topics such as communication strategies and speech and language stimulation.
• Instruct students and family members in strategies to cope with or avoid communication-related misunderstandings.
• Design, develop, and employ alternative diagnostic or communication devices and strategies.
• Conduct lessons and direct educational or therapeutic games to assist teachers dealing with speech problems.
• Participate in conferences or training, or publish research results, to share knowledge of new hearing or speech disorder treatment methods or technologies.
• Communicate with non-speaking students, using sign language or computer technology.
• Provide communication instruction to dialect speakers or students with limited English proficiency.
• Use computer applications to identify and assist with communication disabilities.
• Conduct or direct research on speech or hearing topics, and report findings for use in developing procedures, technologies, or treatments.
• Seek regular opportunities for professional growth. 
• Follow all school policies and procedures in order for MMUUSD to adhere to all Federal, State and OSHA regulations.
• Responsible for safety in the workplace by creating a safe work environment, reporting safety concerns to an administrator and adhering to all safety rules and regulations.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Knowledge of child development and its impact on clinical practice regarding speech and language development.
• Clear understanding of related service decisions regarding SLP services and educational access.
• Knowledge of effective practice, clinical decision making, outcomes based intervention and their proper application in the educational environment. 
• Knowledge of areas of practice specific to pediatrics, including child development and specific diagnoses. 
• Ability to plan, implement, administer and coordinate speech and language programs, from eligibility determination to exit, within an LEA. 
• Ability to select and administer appropriate assessment tools and interpret results of assessment.
• Skill in selecting and providing a wide range of intervention strategies and monitoring their effectiveness. 
• Ability to plan, coordinate and provide training and continuing education both formally and informally to parents, school administration, school staff, community agencies, staff and other medical professionals. 
• Knowledge of current legal mandates, including: Federal and State law, compliance issues, confidentiality requirements, funding procedures and requirements. 
• Physical ability to execute job responsibilities that may include: transferring and/or lifting students or equipment, managing equipment.

Salary : $53,427 - $104,343
