Role Description The Teaching Parent is a full-time, on-site role located in Toledo, OH, responsible for providing daily care, supervision, and guidance to youth in a therapeutic home setting. This role involves creating a safe, stable, and supportive environment; assisting with daily routines such as meals, hygiene, homework, and recreational activities; and modeling positive behavior and healthy coping skills. The Teaching Parent collaborates with clinical and educational staff to implement individualized service plans, support academic success, and reinforce life skills. Responsibilities also include documenting youth progress, participating in team meetings, responding calmly to crises or behavioral challenges, and maintaining clear, respectful communication with youth, colleagues, and families. The position requires consistency, patience, and the ability to build trusting, professional relationships with young people from diverse backgrounds.


Qualifications

  • Strong teaching-related skills, including Teaching and Education experience in structured or informal settings.
  • Ability to develop and implement Lesson Planning and Curriculum Development tailored to youth needs and program goals.
  • Effective Communication skills, including active listening, clear verbal and written communication, and professional collaboration with youth, families, and staff.
  • Experience or training in youth care, social services, or related fields (e.g., child development, psychology, education) is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage challenging behaviors, de-escalate situations, and maintain appropriate boundaries in a therapeutic environment.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; post-secondary education in a related field is a plus.
  • Ability to work a full-time schedule, including possible evenings, weekends, and holidays as program needs require.
  • Basic computer and documentation skills, with attention to detail and confidentiality.
  • Willingness to complete required background checks, training, and certifications (e.g., CPR/First Aid, crisis intervention) as mandated by agency and state regulations.
