Role Description The Director of Nutrition Services is a full-time, on-site role based in Columbia, SC, responsible for overseeing all aspects of the district’s school nutrition programs. This role manages menu planning, food procurement, and food service operations to ensure that meals are nutritious, appealing, and compliant with federal, state, and local regulations. The Director leads and trains nutrition services staff, develops and implements standard operating procedures, and monitors food safety and sanitation practices across school sites. Day-to-day responsibilities include budget management, vendor coordination, data reporting, and collaboration with school administrators and health professionals to support student wellness initiatives. The Director also engages with families and the community to promote nutrition education and support the district’s broader educational mission.
Qualifications
- Strong foundation in Dietetics and Nutrition, with the ability to design and oversee nutritionally balanced meal programs for diverse student populations.
- Demonstrated experience in Food Service operations, including planning, scheduling, staff management, and compliance with school nutrition regulations.
- Proficiency in Food Preparation and Culinary Skills to guide menu development, production methods, and quality standards.
- Master’s degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, Food Service Management, Public Health, Management or a related field.
- Knowledge of USDA school meal programs, food safety standards, and applicable federal and state regulations.
- Strong organizational, budgeting, and data analysis skills, with the ability to manage multiple school sites and projects simultaneously.
- Effective leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills to collaborate with staff, students, families, and community partners.
- Experience in an educational or K–12 environment is beneficial, along with a commitment to equity, inclusion, and student-centered service.
