ADMINISTRATIVE RELATIONSHIP Works under the direct supervision of certificated staff member and District Superintendent; to assist classroom teacher in supervising the classroom and playground activities of students; to relieve teacher of routine clerical intervention aide duties; supplemental “pull-out” instruction of EIA, LEP and SCE students and/or other job related work as directed by supervisor. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Assists teacher in motivating, disciplining, instructing and supervising students. 2. Assists teacher in the preparation of classroom materials. 3. Assists teacher in routine clerical classroom tasks (i.e., roll taking, correction of student work.) 4. Assists in preparation of bulletin board materials. 5. Operates basic office machines. 6. Organizes classroom reference and resource materials. 7. Listens to and drills individual or small groups of students in reading, spelling, mathematics and other subjects as assigned by teacher. 8. Administers and scores tests as assigned. 9. Knowledge of general academic needs; behavior of EIA, LEP and SCE students. 10. Knowledge of cultural background and lifestyle of EIA, LEP and SCE students. 11. Performs other related duties as assigned by supervisor. QUALIFICATIONS 1. Knowledge of general needs and behavior of children. 2. Knowledge of correct English (Spanish) usage, spelling, reading/writing, grammar and punctuation. 3. Knowledge of the subject matter to be taught. 4. Knowledge of office methods, supplies and equipment 5. Ability to organize, supervise and instruct students in a variety of activities (indoors/outdoors) 6. Ability to supervise students during recess, PE (outdoor activities), etc. 7. Ability to analyze situation accurately and adopt an effective course of action. 8. Ability to perform routine clerical work. 9. Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions. 10. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Any combination equivalent to completion of high school education with 2 years of college education and/or 48 units or passing of Paraprofessional Exam; experience in working with school-age children and latest curriculum programs; bilingual skills preferred.
