Essential Functions
Under the direction of the Maintenance Manager, the Refrigeration Technician will provide leadership and coordinate efforts for the plant systems pertaining to Ammonia, Air, Water and HVAC. The refrigeration technician will establish, organize, plan, and implement maintenance programs that will improve the operating efficiencies for the plant quickly and safely. They will support the maintenance strategy for Preventive Maintenance, Corrective Maintenance, Operator Asset Care, Continuous Improvement, and PSM. This will also include the development and implementation of necessary technical training/certification needs, and the provision of any technical services needed to support the Plant. The Refrigeration Technician will support and coordinate all efforts with outside contractors including justification, design, some project implementation, and startups, also includes the direction of outside contractors and their maintenance contracts with assistance from the Maintenance Manager.

We have four manufacturing facilities located in OH, IL, IA, and WI. We provide products to many national retailers, wholesalers, distributors, club and mass stores, as well as industrial accounts including other food manufacturers.
This position is based out of our Beaver Dam, WI location.

Essential Duties
- Monitors and evaluates equipment logs and reports for refrigeration, water, compressed air and HVAC systems. Looks to correct chronic or repetitive problems by evaluating the log or reports
- Maintains records of all equipment and recommends improvements to inventory and preventive maintenance systems based on this information
- Coordinates efforts with outside contractors to successfully execute maintenance contracts
- Procures material’s necessary for the maintenance of equipment in his area of responsibility
- Ensure new equipment meets requirements of OSHA, sanitation, quality, maintenance, and production.
- Plans all work for engine room equipment
- Oversees and approves all repairs
- Maintains fire suppression systems and ammonia leak vigilance with a 0 tolerance leak mentality.
- Handles all matters pertaining to the engine room in a safe manner
- Participates in the PSM Program
- Keeps Maintenance Mgr., Manufacturing Mgr. and Plant Mgr. advised of safety related operating conditions and problems on a timely manner
- Maintain Compliance of Federal, State and Local EPA regulations
- Provide a safe and reliable, efficient operation
- Promotes Safe working habits
- Responsible for interacting with all plant depts.
- Minimum of 3 to 5 years experience in Ammonia Refrigeration or related field.
- Background that includes, but not limited to air compressor equipment, HVAC, understanding of plant utilities systems, equipment installation and startups
- Experience working with vendors and contractors.
- Previous experience in the food industry and knowledge of GMP’s and SQF audits would be valuable
- Experience and familiarity of Plant utilities and waste water systems required
- Previous experience with PSM, PHA is a core competence
- Strong interpersonal and team skills to function as a productive team member and leader.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 pounds.
- Refrigeration staff works staggered hours M-F with some weekend work and on call every third weekend.
