JOB SUMMARY:
Under direct supervision, perform visual supervision of swimming pool stations in all areas of the pool facility. Perform maintenance of grounds and building. Work with circulation pump, motor, valves and vacuum system. Admit patrons at gate. Record accurate patron numbers and methods of payment. Perform other related duties as required.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Supervise large groups in the water, including children, both visually and audibly to ensure health/safety standards are maintained. Test water as directed by pool manager, and work with pool chemicals, using appropriate safety precautions. Work with pool circulation system. Record accurate patron numbers and methods of payment. Take fees at gate; add, subtract, and make change accurately. Operate cash register. Follow all cash-handling policies of city/department. Fill out accurate handwritten reports. Operate lawn equipment safely. Maintain grounds immediately outside pool area. Communicate and deal courteously and effectively with other City employees, patrons, and the general public. Practice continuous public relations in dealing with pool patrons.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
Paint facility and equipment as needed.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, DEGREES, CERTIFICATES AND/OR LICENSES:
Must hold current American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification, CPRPR certification, and First Aid certification. American Red Cross Waterpark Lifeguard Certification preferred.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS:
Must be a minimum of 16 years of age. Must have ability to make quick and effective decisions. Must have: good verbal and written language skills; ability to cope effectively with large crowds and high noise levels. Must be able to perform skill tests administered by the Parks and Recreation Department, including a rescue test, basic swim strokes (breaststroke, crawl stroke, sidestroke, and elementary backstroke), and must demonstrate effective CPR knowledge. Must be able to implement cash-handling policies.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Sit for long periods of time. Run, walk, climb onto and descend from lifeguard stand. Carry, push, pull, drag and/or hold objects up to 50 pounds (equipment or furniture). Work outdoors
