Job Title: School Custodial Staff
Reports To: Facilities Maintenance Supervisor
Shift: M-F 3PM-11PM during school year. M-F 8AM-4PM during the Summer.
Wage: $20.00 per hour
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Position Summary
School Custodial Staff are responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, sanitary, and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors. This position performs daily cleaning and routine maintenance duties throughout classrooms, common areas, restrooms, offices, and other school facilities while ensuring supplies are stocked and available.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Clean and sanitize classrooms, including floors, desks, tables, whiteboards, and other surfaces.
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, and maintain flooring throughout school buildings.
- Clean and maintain common areas including hallways, entryways, cafeterias, gyms, and gathering spaces.
- Clean, disinfect, and restock bathrooms with paper products, soap, and other supplies.
- Clean administrative offices, staff work areas, and meeting spaces.
- Empty trash and recycling containers and dispose of waste properly.
- Monitor and replenish custodial and restroom supplies as needed.
- Maintain cleaning equipment and report maintenance or repair needs.
- Assist with room setup and breakdown for school events and activities.
- Identify and report safety hazards, facility concerns, or damaged equipment.
- Follow district cleaning procedures, safety standards, and applicable health regulations.
- Secure designated areas at the end of shifts as assigned.
- Perform seasonal and deep-cleaning tasks as scheduled.
- Assist with various duties between campuses as needed.
- Complete other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous custodial, janitorial, or cleaning experience preferred but not required.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Basic knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and safe equipment operation.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and reach for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to push and pull cleaning equipment and supply carts.
- Ability to work around standard cleaning products and equipment.
Work Environment
Work is performed indoors throughout school facilities and may include occasional outdoor duties. Schedule may include daytime, evening, or seasonal work hours as assigned.
