Job purpose
The Senior Accountant will plan, direct, and coordinate the accounting operations. This includes general journal entries, reconciliations, timely and accurate processing of financial reports, management and development of accounting staff, setting standards for processes and procedures.
Duties and responsibilities
- Leads the accounting department which includes accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, and payroll
- Maintains a documented system of accounting policies and procedures; implements a system of controls over accounting transactions to minimize risk.
- Oversees the production of periodic financial reports; ensures that the reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles.
- Prepares cash flow report
- Review Balance Sheet reconciliations on a monthly basis
- Recommends benchmarks that will be used to measure the company’s performance.
- Produces the annual budget and forecasts; reports significant budget differences to management.
- Provides financial analysis, with emphasis on capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations.
- Works with external auditors and provides needed information for the annual audit.
- Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements.
- Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field
- Minimum 5 years of relevant accounting and financial experience
- Minimum 3 years managerial experience with strong leadership qualities
- Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures
- High attention to details and accuracy
- Must demonstrate ability to meet deadlines
- Demonstrate resourcefulness in setting priorities, proposing new ways of creating efficiencies, and guiding investment in people and systems
- Advance computer skills including Excel
- Extremely organized and a self-starting
- Working knowledge of federal, state, and local tax compliance regulations and reporting
- Lease accounting (preferred but not required)
