We are seeking a reliable and technically skilled Field Service Engineer to install, commission, maintain, and repair weighing and dimensioning equipment at customer sites. This role involves frequent travel, direct customer interaction, and hands-on technical work to ensure systems operate efficiently and safely.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide electrical and mechanical installation and service of weighing equipment at customer sites.
- Prior to installation review components to ensure proper set-up to customer specifications.
- Perform preventative maintenance and emergency repairs.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, or software issues.
- Provide onsite technical support and basic user training.
- Complete service reports, installation documentation, and checklists.
- Coordinate with internal teams for schedule, travel needs, parts, and escalations.
- Travel approximately 50% to 75%. Some requirements travel may come with little or no notice.
- During non-travel times provide telephone and email technical support for diagnostic troubleshooting, repair, preventative maintenance, and validation services to dealer and customer. Ensures customer service exceeds expectations.
- Maintain adequate tool kit stock for installation and service requirements.
- Adheres to all safety rules and guidelines at customer site to ensure a safe and healthy working environment.
- May be assigned small product development projects. Develops and designs products to customer specifications. Designs all products to comply with national and international standards (including UL, CSA, FM and NTEP) and gaining these approvals.
- May assist with providing individual electrical schematics, BOM, routings and other documentation required for the efficient manufacture of specific products and projects.
- May participate at meetings as the department representative.
- May assist with review of technical data for the production of manuals and sales literature.
- Assist other departments with technical information, troubleshooting techniques, telephone support, and setting up equipment.
- Assist with RLWS onsite training classes in equipment service, repair and operations.
- Assist with new product evaluations and provide feedback in the development process.
- Other job functions as assigned.
- Bachelors, Technical Diploma or equivalent experience in engineering, electronics, or related field
- Travel experience
- Valid driver’s license
- Inspection system with weighing in-motion including x-ray and metal detection a plus.
- Proven experience in field service, installation, or maintenance roles.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to read technical drawings, manuals, and schematics.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
- Strong customer relations skill.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Computer skills including all Microsoft products.
- Regular travel to customer sites
- Occasional after-hours or weekend work
- Physical work including lifting, standing, and working in varied environments
