Primary Purpose: Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in them to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. In addition, provide leadership in the coordination, organization, and implementation of instructional strategies so that each student may drive maximum benefit from the districts language acquisition programs.Qualifications: Education/Certification: Bachelors degree from accredited universityValid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or required training for subject and level assigned with a supplement in Bilingual education.Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject areasSpecial Knowledge/Skills: Knowledge of strategies and materials for the education of bilingual/ESLstudents.Ability to interpret dataCultural competency; appreciation, embracing and valuing of diversityKnowledge of core academic subjectsAbility to instruct students and manage their behaviorStrong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skillsAbility to discuss assessment information and share instructional ideas and materials with teachers.Experience: At least two years classroom experience.Major Responsibilities and Duties: Instructional StrategiesPlan, organize and provide academic instruction in English and Spanish for students participating in the language program.Provide differentiated instruction to accommodate the diverse linguistic needs of students who are acquiring English as a second language.Create a learning environment that fosters the attainment and ongoing development of the four essential language domains: reading, writing, speaking, and listening.Present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.Plan and participate in Language Proficiency Assessment Committee (LPAC) meetings as needed.Complete necessary LPAC paperwork and review student records for required documentation.Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.Assist teachers in the effective use of Bilingual/ESL instructional materials.Encourage and support development of innovative instructional programs, helping teachers pilot such efforts as appropriate.Serve as a resource in identifying appropriate instructional strategies to improve student achievement for English language learners.Model exemplary lessons for individual teachers and groups of teachersEnsure that standards/ELPS are being effectively taught/implemented.Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.Student Growth and DevelopmentHelp students analyze and improve study methods and habits.Administer formative and standardized academic assessments in English and Spanish to monitor progress and identify academic and language needs of students.Analyze and interpret the results of formative and standardized academic assessments in English and Spanish to inform instructional practice.Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned.
