The Landfill Supervisor is responsible for a variety of duties and activities related to operation and maintenance of the Rice County landfill. This position supervises the heavy equipment operators and oversees the day-to-day operations of the landfill. This position performs skilled and complex labor; operates light, medium and heavy equipment; oversees maintenance on department equipment and specialty projects. The Landfill Supervisor is responsible for ensuring the landfill is maintained in accordance with State law and county policy.
Minimum job requirements include a high school diploma, and one year of formal technical training, and three to five years of experience in the solid waste field, including experience with landfill operations, heavy equipment operation or maintenance or equivalent.
Class B Commercial Driver’s License required upon hire. Type II MSW, and Landfill Operators certificate required within one year of hire and recertified as needed. This position is subject to DOT random drug screening.
HIRING RANGE / UNION: $37.14 - $51.99 per hour / NU – Grade 13
HOURS: Normal business hours are Monday thru Friday, 7:30am – 4:00pm. Position is fulltime, 40 hours per week. May occasionally need to work outside those days and hours.

- Acts as a technical resource and lead worker for landfill workface operations. Demonstrates and provides leadership regarding knowledge of heavy equipment, rules, policies and procedures. Coordinates the resolution of any hazards or problematic landfill conditions.
- Ensures proper equipment maintenance and repair.
- Operates heavy, medium and light equipment in support of department operations.
- Works closely with haulers, vendors and other landfill users to ensure proper department operations and environmental compliance.
- Manages activities to ensure regulatory compliance of the landfill.
- Supervises the daily, weekly and monthly tasks of the heavy equipment operators.
- Works with others in management on special projects and performs other duties as assigned.
