PATIENT CARE TECHNICIAN - CLINIC
 
Reports to: Clinic Director , Director of Clinic Operations
Department: SFC 
Location:  Rural Health Clinic
FLSA Status:  Non-Exempt            
 
 
JOB SUMMARY: 
Under the supervision of the SFC Clinic manager, prepares patients for provider, providing medical records, supplies and equipment, fills in for the phlebotomist, nursing, and front office staff as needed.    
The position reports to the Clinic Director. The Patient Care Technician also maintains cooperative working relationships with intradepartmental and interdepartmental personnel.  
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  
1.    Performs daily/weekly duties and nursing duties as assigned by RN and provider 
a.    Answer Phone Calls, takes phone messages and delivers to providers  
b.    Prepares patient for examination and treatment.  Takes patient history and vital signs and records.  Identifies patient needs and reports to provider. 
2.    Performs nursing duties.  
a.    Observes and follows department preventive maintenance schedules.  
b.    Performs clerical functions associated. Compiles and condenses technical and statistical data for reports and records. 
c.    Prepares exam and treatment room with necessary instruments and supplies. 
d.    Assists provider in applying casts, splints and dressings, in minor surgery and physical exams. 
e.    Gives injections, IM and SubQ. 
f.    Cleans and sterilizes equipment and supplies for treatments and procedures. 
g.    Assists with scheduling of tests and treatments. 
h.    Maintains patients’ information and practices strict confidentiality. 
i.    Assists in checking the defibrillator weekly and the crash cart monthly, or after each use. 
j.    Applies safety principles and proper body mechanics when assisting patients with transfers or positioning. 
k.    Provides services in a caring, compassionate manner without regard to race, religion, age, disabilities or financial status. 
3.    Performs phlebotomist duties as needed.  
a.    Stocks, cleans and maintains phlebotomy and patient care area 
b.    Inventory of phlebotomy supplies, assists in ordering and maintaining clinical and office supplies and equipment 
c.    Collects, performs and results urinalysis testing and manual kit testing as needed. 
d.    Participates in PT testing 
e.    Performs DOT and NON-DOT collections with proper certification. 
f.    Prepares patient for examination and treatment. Takes patient history and vital signs and records. Identifies patient needs and reports to provider. 
4.    Performs general receptionist duties:   
a.    Prepare office for daily activities, such as preparing charts for patient visits. 
b.    Greet patients and visitors in a prompt, courteous and helpful manner. 
c.    Registers patients, verifies and updates necessary information for their record.  Assists patients in completing paperwork, as needed. 
d.    Schedules appointments following scheduling guidelines.  Maintains schedules on the computer. 
e.    Answers telephone, manages phone calls, takes messages, and provides non-medical information. 
f.    Receives payments and provides receipts.  Asks for co-pay and payments on accounts as appropriate. 
g.    Accurate preparation of daily bank deposit.   
h.    Prepares and delivers necessary paperwork for patients to lab area. 
 
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:  
Performs other related duties as assigned by clinic director, including duties related to special projects. 
May be assigned responsibilities for coordinating educational activities.  
 
QUALIFICATIONS:  
•    Must be able to lift 50 pounds unassisted. 
•    Must be able to discern colors and hues. 
•    Able to take direction over the phone and perform maintenance. 
•    Adequate computer and verbal communication skills
