What are the responsibilities and job description for the Music Teacher (Piano) position at Rhythm & Strings Music Lessons?
About Rhythm & Strings
Rhythm & Strings Music is a professionally run private music teaching studio in Billerica, MA. Founded and operated by a Berklee College of Music alumnus and active performing musician, we serve students of all ages across piano, guitar, and drums. The studio is growing and we are bringing on our first staff instructor to expand capacity and serve incoming students.
This is not a background gig. The right person will build a real student roster, develop long-term relationships with families, and grow their hours as enrollment increases. We are investing in this hire because we expect them to be here when we open our second room.
The Schedule
Saturday: 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM
Sunday: 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM
Both days are required every week. This is a fixed schedule with the potential to expand to additional days.
What You Will Teach
Piano is required. Voice and guitar are a strong plus. Students range from beginner to intermediate across all ages.
Pay and How the Ramp Works
You will be starting with zero students. We know that, and we will protect your income while your roster builds.
For the first 8 weeks, we guarantee a minimum of 4 paid teaching hours per week at $55 per hour, regardless of how many students are booked. Any hours above 4 in a given week pay normally. Starting at week 9, pay moves to straight hourly based on actual booked lessons.
At full roster on both days, this role pays up to $550 per week. As the studio grows, so does your schedule.
What Growth Looks Like
- Hours increase as your student roster fills
- Additional teaching days can be added as studio capacity expands
- Rate and title reviews at 6 and 12 months
- Senior instructor and studio leadership roles are part of the long-term plan
Requirements
- Piano instruction ability at beginner to intermediate level
- Available every Saturday 10 AM to 3 PM and Sunday 10 AM to 3 PM, every week
- Reliable transportation to Billerica, MA
- Able to pass a CORI background check before start date
- Strong communication skills with parents and students
- Must enjoy working with kids
- Commitment to at least 12 months
Nice to Haves
- Enrolled in or graduate of a music education or performance program (Berklee, UMass Lowell, or equivalent)
- Ability to teach voice and/or guitar
- Prior teaching or tutoring experience in any subject
Who Thrives Here
You are someone who takes your craft seriously. You follow through without being chased. You are comfortable talking to parents directly and professionally. You want to build something, not just fill hours on a weekend.
If you need a full-time income immediately or need schedule flexibility, this role is not the right fit right now.
