The Assistant Produce Manager supports the Produce Manager in overseeing daily
operations within the produce department. Key responsibilities include maintaining
product quality, managing inventory, supervising staff, and driving sales while ensuring
excellent customer service and a clean, safe shopping environment.
Core Responsibilities
- Department Operations: Assist in ordering, receiving, stocking, and rotating
fresh fruits, vegetables, and related products to ensure maximum freshness and
minimize waste (shrink).
- Merchandising: Build appealing product displays according to company
guidelines and seasonal promotions to attract customers and increase sales.
- Team Leadership: Help train, schedule, and supervise department associates.
Step in to lead the department in the Produce Manager’s absence.
- Quality Control: Inspect incoming shipments for quality and accuracy. Ensure
proper storage conditions (temperature and humidity) for all items.
- Customer Service: Greet customers, answer questions, provide product
recommendations, and resolve complaints efficiently.
- Financial Performance: Assist in monitoring sales, labor costs, and inventory
levels to meet department budget goals.
- Safety and Sanitation: Maintain cleanliness in the sales area, prep rooms, and
backroom coolers. Enforce food safety regulations and workplace safety
standards.
Qualifications & Key Skills
- Experience: 1–2 years of experience working in a grocery retail environment,
specifically within a produce department. Previous supervisory experience is
preferred.
- Product Knowledge: Strong understanding of different types of produce,
seasonal availability, and proper handling/storage techniques.
Pay will be based on experience.
Hours will typically be 6am-3pm, 7am-4pm, or 8am-5pm 5 days per week.
Pay: $15.00 - $18.00 per hour
