Desktop Support Specialist

The Desktop Support Specialist is a member of the Academic Technology Team and reports directly to the Manager of Technology. This position provides general desktop and endpoint technology support for a diverse campus community consisting of faculty, staff, computer labs, and classroom learning spaces.

The primary focus of the position is supporting college owned computers, peripherals, applications, and related technology across Windows and MacOS. The position also provides secondary support for classroom audiovisual systems and other technology used in teaching and learning.

Job Responsibilities:

• Provide technical support for desktop and laptop computers, software, printers, peripherals, and related technology.
• Configure, deploy, maintain, Troubleshoot, and replace computers for faculty, staff, labs, and classrooms.
• Install and maintain operating system updates, software, security patches, and standard applications using SCCM and Intune management platforms.
• Respond to and resolve support requests in coordination with the Help Desk and other Information Services staff.
• Provide support for classroom audiovisual systems, displays, projection systems, control systems, and instructional technologies.
• Collaborate with Academic Technology staff on desktop standards, technology deployments, upgrades, and preventative maintenance.
• Maintain current knowledge of desktop, endpoint management, audiovisual, and instructional technologies.
  

Job Qualifications:

• Associate's degree in information technology, computer science, or a related field required.
• Experience supporting desktop and laptop computers in a professional or higher education technology support environment.
• Working knowledge of Windows operating systems, desktop hardware, software, printers, peripherals, networking fundamentals, and common troubleshooting practices.
• Familiarity with macOS and Apple computers is preferred. Experience with Apple device management tools such as JAMF is beneficial but is not required.
• Familiarity with centralized endpoint management, software deployment, imaging, configuration management, or similar enterprise technology management tools is preferred.
• Familiarity with audiovisual equipment, technology-enabled classrooms, or instructional technology is beneficial.
• Excellent customer-service, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with other technical staff while independently managing assigned support requests and projects.
  

Physical Demands:

Light work: General office environment that requires sitting at a desk and also frequently walking from building to building. The candidate will perform computer work, keyboard use, and telecommunications on a frequent basis. Manual dexterity will be required to perform keyboard and writing activities on a frequent basis. Visual acuity is required on a frequent basis to read and review print and electronic documents. Some physical skill is required to lift and work on equipment that may be located in tight and poorly lighted spaces, such as under desks and workstations or other confined areas. Mobility of the candidate will be sufficient to allow moving about the office and to walk from building to building throughout campus. Employee may be required to occasionally climb ladders and stairs. Candidate may be required to work above head on equipment and components.Lifting and moving of computer components and peripherals weighing between 40 and 90 pounds will be required. The physical demands must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
