What are the responsibilities and job description for the Dosimetrist position at Rhode Island Hospital?
SUMMARY: Reporting to the Chief Radiotherapy Physicist, participates in treatment planning by performing clinical dosimetry and consulting with physicians, computer personnel and Radiation Therapists to develop, modify and verify treatment plans and programs, namely ARIA. The core Success Factors include: Instill Trust and Value Differences Patient and Community Focus and Collaborate RESPONSIBILITIES: PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Continuously consults with physicians and radiation therapists regarding planning and application of treatment. Reviews treatment plans to assure adequate dose to tumor and acceptable dose to other critical organs in the area of the tumor. Evaluates and resolves discrepancies and other physics related problems. Consults with computer personnel regarding the development and modification of new existing treatment programs. Checks and assures accuracy of all dose calculations performed by MU Check. Reviews patient charts, verifies calculations and checks machine parameters for all treatments. Participate in physics related aspects of research projects performing such technical duties as setting up equipment, taking measurements and recording data, as assigned in ARIA. Attends meetings and conferences and reads current scientific literature to maintain and enhance professional expertise. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: BASIC KNOWLEDGE: Bachelor’s degree required, plus completion of a one-year training program in Dosimetry or equivalent.Current, valid certification from the Medical Dosimetrist Certification Board is preferred. Thorough knowledge of dosimetry and the field of medical radiation physics. Analytical and advanced numerical skills to perform complex dosimetry and to evaluate and resolve discrepancies. Interpersonal skills to consult with other staff members. Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span, with consideration of aging processes, human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.EXPERIENCE: One to two years job experience to become familiar with a variety of patient treatment plans and policies and procedures specific to the department. u SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:None.
