Role Description This part-time, on-site Pipefitting & Sheet Metal Instructor role is based at the academy’s Pawtucket, RI location. Instructors are responsible for delivering structured lessons in pipefitting and sheet metal work, including safety practices, tool usage, blueprint reading, and installation techniques. Day-to-day tasks include preparing lesson plans, demonstrating skills and procedures, supervising hands-on exercises, and assessing learner progress through quizzes, practical evaluations, and feedback. The role also involves maintaining a safe training environment, updating instructional materials in line with industry standards, and collaborating with staff to support learner success and program improvement.
Qualifications
- Strong practical experience in pipefitting and sheet metal work, including installation, fabrication, and troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of construction safety standards, OSHA regulations, and safe operation of tools and equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications relevant to mechanical and sheet metal systems.
- Effective teaching, coaching, or mentoring skills, with the ability to explain concepts clearly to learners with varied experience levels.
- Solid communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to manage classroom and shop dynamics professionally.
- Organizational skills for lesson planning, recordkeeping, and coordinating training schedules and assessments.
- Prior instructional or training experience in a trade, vocational, or apprenticeship program is highly beneficial.
- Relevant trade certification, apprenticeship completion, or equivalent industry experience; high school diploma or GED required, postsecondary technical education preferred.
