Job Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Registered Nurse to join our Rheumatology and Internal Medicine practice. This role offers the opportunity to work in a primary care clinic while also supporting infusion therapy services. The ideal candidate will have experience in managing chronic diseases, administering biologic infusions, and handling prior authorizations, particularly in a specialty care setting. This is an exciting opportunity to support patients with complex autoimmune and internal medicine conditions in a clinical capacity.
Primary Care/Rheumatology Duties:
- Perform patient triage, including vital signs, symptom assessment, and documentation in the EMR.
- Administer medications and vaccinations as prescribed.
- Provide patient education on chronic disease management, medication adherence, and wellness.
- Coordinate patient referrals and diagnostic testing.
- Monitor and document patient progress and communicate findings with the care team.
- Support the processing of prior authorizations for medications, imaging studies, and specialty referrals.
Infusion Therapy Duties:
· Prepare and mix infusion medications according to provider orders and manufacturer guidelines, ensuring accurate dosing and safe handling of biologics and other IV therapies.
· Initiate, monitor, and discontinue IV infusions, including biologics (e.g., Remicade, Orencia, Actemra), IV steroids, antibiotics, and hydration treatments.
· Monitor vital signs and patient status before, during, and after infusion to identify and respond to any adverse reactions or complications.
· Implement physician orders accurately and promptly, ensuring safe and effective administration of all infusion-related therapies.
· Work closely with providers to coordinate patient care, communicate clinical findings, and ensure timely follow-up.
· Initiate and maintain IV access devices, including peripheral IVs and central lines, following strict aseptic technique.
· Provide thorough patient education on infusion therapy, medication side effects, and aftercare instructions.
· Document all aspects of infusion care in the EMR, including medication lot numbers, start/end times, vitals, and patient response.
· Ensure compliance with infection control protocols and safety standards for hazardous drug handling.
· Obtain and track prior authorizations for infusion medications and treatments when required by insurance.
Qualifications:
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Massachusetts required.
- Associate or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN preferred).
- Minimum 1-2 years of clinical RN experience in primary care, infusion therapy, or acute care.
- BLS certification required.
- IV experience highly desirable.
* Assist providers with patient care. Rooming patients and prepare for examinations, EKGs, Injections, Stocking exam rooms, EMR documentation, Confidentiality.
