The General Farm Ranch Hand position will mainly be required to perform a variety of duties related farming and irrigation. Some cattle work will also be required. Worker will be required to operate farm equipment for planting and harvesting hay and small grains. Specific equipment includes operation of a skid steer with attachments; small tractor with rock picking attachment; and large Farmhand tractor with hay loader and other attachments used for cropping operations include cultivating, seeding and harvesting, and operation of grain bins and augers, as well as manual shoveling and loading of trucks. Worker is required to perform general service and maintenance of farm vehicles, small motors and other farm equipment. Worker is required to flood irrigate and operate irrigation equipment of pivots is required and includes installation and removal of irrigation pipe, manually/routinely move pipe, maintain irrigation equipment and oversee operation of irrigation pumps. Fencing requirements include manually repair, replace and/or build fence using shovel, fencing tools, post pounder and operate post and pole skidder, and manually pick rocks. Perform general cleanup of farm acreage, pens, corrals and barns. A limited amount of time will be spent working with livestock and includes checking physical characteristics, observe general condition of livestock and apply the appropriate care, examine animals to detect illness/injury/disease, rate of weight gain to determine delivery time, assist in delivery and night calving, apply or administer medications/vaccines, mix feed/additives; build water barriers around water tanks; place mineral blocks, herd livestock to various pastures, sort cattle on foot in grow yard; operate 4-wheeler to move cows; assist with branding; confine livestock in stalls, clean/disinfect livestock corrals/stalls/sheds, dock, castrate, brand, clip/tag and clamp livestock. The job entails working with farm animals and machinery, outdoors in all types of weather (extreme heat, wind and cold) and occasional exposure to herding hazards such as cattle stampedes, kicking/bucking horses, poisonous snakes and predators. Worker must be willing to perform tasks capably and efficiently without close supervision. Worker must crouch, bend, lift and carry items weighing up to 100 pounds. Night shifts required during calving season and long/odd during irrigation and haying season. Minimum of 3 months of experience is required. Drivers’ license is required.
