Responsibilities
As Book Production Assistant/Junior Graphic Designer at Rheinwerk Publishing, you will work in a unique position: You will contribute to the production and presentation of the company’s books, while receiving on-the-job training in all aspects of book and e-book production. With your talent in layout and your keen eye for detail, you will shape content into the print and digital products customers will ultimately hold in their hands. And your skills in Adobe CS will ensure that our books look beautiful and receive the attention they deserve.
Detailed responsibilities include:
- Using the Adobe Creative Suite to design and optimize high-quality images for print, including screenshots and technical diagrams.
- Checking proofs for design and layout quality.
- Selecting cover images and creating book covers.
- Creating marketing graphics for our products and campaigns.
- Working with Word templates and custom tools to produce high-quality print books and reader-friendly e-books.
- Working closely with editors, typesetters, and authors to produce books efficiently and on schedule.
Required Skills and Experience
- You have a bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Illustration, English, Communications, Journalism, or a related field.
- You have excellent knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite/Cloud, specifically Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat Pro, and InDesign.
- You have a sharp eye for detail and clear, balanced layout and design.
- You are able to organize and prioritize your work independently.
- You have exceptional language, grammar, and communication skills.
- You have a strong work ethic and great interpersonal skills.
- You are proficient in the use of Microsoft Office, with a good working knowledge of PCs.
- You love books as much as we do!
Salary and Hours
Rheinwerk Publishing offers competitive salaries and benefits, including comprehensive medical insurance (health, dental, vision), FSA, 401(k) with generous company match, an attractive vacation policy (3 weeks to start, up to 5 weeks with longer service), and more. After your three-month training period, you can transition to our hybrid model of two days per week working from home if you prefer.
