This position supports our mission through being responsible for receipt, and processing of biological specimens into the department, preparation of samples for analytical laboratory testing procedures in a safe, accurate, and timely manner. This role ensures proper identification, labeling, and handling of specimens for laboratory testing while maintaining a compassionate and professional approach to patient care.
Performs all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, as well as applicable professional standards.
Operating Responsibilities:
- Ensure accurate patient identification, proper labeling of specimens, specimen integrity, general laboratory processing, and referral laboratory processing
- Sort, store and prepare specimens for transport, ensuring integrity and compliance with handling procedures.
- Utilize LIS (Laboratory Information System) to receive specimens, complete add-on testing requests, and accurately document
collection procedures and patientnecessary information in the electronic medical record (EMR). - Maintain compliance with infection control, safety, and HIPAA regulations.
- Follow all organizational policies and procedures related to specimen processing.
- Maintain laboratory equipment and supplies, ensuring cleanliness and readiness.
- Report equipment malfunctions or supply shortages to the appropriate personnel.
- Assist with clerical tasks such as filing, data entry, and patient scheduling as needed.
- Participate in training and continuing education activities to maintain competency.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor or laboratory manager.
- Demonstrates skills for basic computer inquiry and problem solving, and use of equipment.
- Follow established methods and practices and demonstrates basic problem-solving skills with QC, testing and computer issues.
Specialized Knowledge and Skills

- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and EMR systems.
- Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and professionalism.
*Basic knowledge of specimen requirements and handling,knowledge of medical terminology, and related work in a laboratory setting preferred.
