This role is onsite daily at the corporate office in Mason, Ohio.
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING
The Tax Manager reports to the Associate Controller and serves as the company’s strategic leader for all global tax matters. This role oversees compliance, planning, audits, reporting, and tax risk management across multiple jurisdictions while supporting a complex international manufacturing and engineering-driven organization.
This individual will partner closely with Finance, Legal, Supply Chain, Engineering, and Operations to ensure the company’s tax posture is optimized, compliant, and aligned with long-term business objectives. The role requires both strategic leadership and hands-on execution within a fast-paced global environment. The Tax Manager will be responsible for the following:
Tax Strategy & Planning
- Develop and execute global tax strategies that support the company’s growth in aerospace tooling, including cross border manufacturing, R&D activities, and long-term customer contracts.
- Evaluate tax implications of new business initiatives, acquisitions, joint ventures, and international expansions.
- Lead transfer pricing strategy, documentation, and intercompany policy development for tooling design, engineering services, third-party sourcing, and manufacturing.
- Maximize opportunities for tax optimization, credits, incentives, and R&D tax benefits across multiple jurisdictions.
- Assist in legal entity design by providing insight into tax implications.
Compliance & Reporting
- Oversee preparation and review of federal, state, and international income tax returns.
- Manage global indirect tax compliance (VAT, GST, sales/use tax) related to tooling shipments, spare parts, and service operations.
- Ensure accurate quarterly and annual tax provisions under ASC 740.
- Maintain strong internal controls over tax processes and reporting.
Audit & Risk Management
- Lead all tax audits and inquiries from U.S. and foreign tax authorities.
- Assess tax risks associated with global supply chain operations, long-term tooling programs, and customer funded development.
- Monitor global tax law changes and proactively adjust company policies.
Cross Functional Leadership
- Partner with Engineering and Program Management to evaluate tax impacts of tooling development cycles, capital investments, and customer pricing structures.
- Collaborate on cash tax forecasting, repatriation planning, and global cash management.
- Advise senior leadership on tax implications of strategic decisions.
Team Leadership
- Manage external tax advisors.
- Establish best practice processes and scalable systems for a growing global enterprise.
IDEAL CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting
- CPA or master’s in taxation
- 8 years of progressive tax experience including strong technical expertise in U.S. federal and state taxes as well as ASC 740.
- Knowledge of international tax frameworks including IFRS and German GAAP (HGB) is preferred.
- Ability to effectively communicate complex tax concepts to non-tax stakeholders.
- Experience with manufacturing, engineering driven industries, aerospace, defense, or tooling environments is preferred but not required.
- Familiarity with transfer pricing with global manufacturing and sourcing environments is preferred but not required.
- Experience working with ERP systems such as SAP, Epicor, or similar platforms is preferred.
