AV Programmer (Hybrid)

Our client, a top-tier commercial audiovisual systems integrator, is seeking an experienced AV Programmer to join their growing team in Richmond, Virginia. This role is responsible for designing, programming, testing, and commissioning sophisticated AV control systems for corporate, higher education, healthcare, government, and other commercial environments.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Crestron programming, AV system commissioning, DSP configuration, and troubleshooting integrated technology solutions. This position offers the opportunity to work on complex, high-profile projects while collaborating with engineering, project management, and installation teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, test, and deploy control system programming for commercial AV installations.
- Program and commission Crestron, AMX, and Biamp control systems and related technologies.
- Design and develop custom graphical user interfaces (GUIs) for touch panels and user control applications.
- Configure and commission audio DSP systems, video conferencing platforms, switching equipment, and network-connected AV devices.
- Perform system troubleshooting, debugging, and quality assurance testing both remotely and on-site.
- Conduct final system commissioning and validation to ensure all project requirements are met.
- Collaborate closely with engineers, project managers, technicians, subcontractors, and clients throughout the project lifecycle.
- Review and maintain programming standards, documentation, and software project records.
- Provide technical support during installation, commissioning, and project closeout phases.
- Complete manufacturer and industry certification training as required.
- Maintain a professional, customer-focused approach while working in a collaborative team environment.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Programming, Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or equivalent industry experience.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience programming Crestron, AMX, or similar AV control systems.
- Strong proficiency with Crestron SIMPL and SIMPL programming.
- Experience developing custom control system GUI interfaces.
- Minimum of 3 years of AV system commissioning experience.
- Experience configuring and troubleshooting:
- Audio DSP systems
- Video conferencing platforms
- AV switching and routing systems
- Unified Communications technologies
- Strong understanding of networking fundamentals, including:
- TCP/IP and UDP protocols
- VLANs and subnetting
- QoS
- Unicast and multicast traffic
- Firewalls, routers, and VPNs
- Ability to read and interpret system schematics, line diagrams, construction documents, and floor plans.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent troubleshooting, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced project environment.
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a team.
- Willingness to travel locally and nationally for project commissioning and support.
Preferred Qualifications
- Crestron CTI-P301 certification.
- Certified Crestron Programmer designation.
- Experience with Biamp DSP programming and commissioning.
- Familiarity with Cisco, Poly, Microsoft Teams Rooms, Zoom Rooms, and other UC platforms.
- AVIXA CTS, CTS-I, or related industry certifications.
- Experience directing subcontractors and coordinating field activities.
- Strong knowledge of AVIXA standards and AV industry best practices.
