SOX Audit Manager Consultant

POSTED ON 10/16/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 11/14/2026
We are seeking an experienced Interim SOX Manager to support a large, publicly traded, global organization with the execution and oversight of its SOX compliance program.

This is a highly visible consulting opportunity partnering with Corporate Accounting, Finance leadership, Internal Audit, and external auditors to strengthen internal controls over financial reporting (ICFR), support SOX 404 compliance, and ensure the effective execution of the organization's control testing and remediation activities.

The ideal candidate brings a strong foundation in accounting and financial reporting, extensive experience managing SOX programs within complex public company environments, and the ability to engage confidently with senior stakeholders across multiple business functions and operating entities.
This is a business-focused SOX role centered on financial and operational business process controls, NOT IT SOX or ITGC compliance.

What you will work on

SOX Program Management & Execution
  • Lead and coordinate SOX 404 compliance activities across designated business units, subsidiaries, and corporate functions.
  • Oversee SOX planning, risk assessments, control scoping, testing schedules, documentation, and compliance reporting.
  • Evaluate the design and operating effectiveness of internal controls over financial reporting.
  • Identify opportunities to improve SOX processes, testing methodologies, and overall program efficiency.
  • Ensure SOX deliverables are completed accurately and within established reporting timelines.

Financial & Business Process Controls
  • Provide oversight of key financial reporting and accounting-related control activities, including entity-level controls and business process controls.
  • Partner with Accounting, Finance, and Operations leaders to evaluate control environments and identify potential gaps.
  • Support COSO-based control assessments and fraud risk evaluations.
  • Assess control deficiencies, coordinate corrective action plans, and track remediation efforts through completion.
  • Review remediation testing results to validate that identified control issues have been appropriately addressed.

Audit Coordination & Stakeholder Management
  • Serve as a key liaison between internal stakeholders and external auditors throughout the SOX compliance cycle.
  • Coordinate audit requests, testing documentation, walkthroughs, and resolution of audit findings.
  • Collaborate with Internal Audit teams to review testing methodologies, workpapers, and compliance activities.
  • Communicate SOX program status, control deficiencies, and remediation progress to Finance and Accounting leadership.
  • Provide guidance to control owners and testing teams on SOX requirements, documentation standards, and compliance expectations.

Reporting & Process Improvement
  • Maintain accurate SOX program documentation and compliance tracking within applicable audit management systems.
  • Develop and enhance reporting tools, dashboards, and management updates to improve visibility into program performance.
  • Support ongoing improvements to financial controls, compliance processes, and audit readiness.
  • Contribute to special projects involving internal controls, financial reporting governance, and operational effectiveness.

What you will bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
  • Active CPA designation required.
  • 10 years of progressive experience in accounting, internal audit, SOX compliance, or financial controls.
  • Demonstrated experience managing or leading SOX 404 compliance activities for publicly traded companies.
  • Strong project management capabilities, with a demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and reporting deadlines.
Strongly Preferred Skills (not required)
  • Big 4 public accounting experience and/or internal audit leadership experience within a large publicly traded company.
  • Experience supporting SOX programs across multiple entities, business units, or international operations.
  • Background in manufacturing, industrial, or other complex multinational business environments.
  • Familiarity with Tableau or comparable reporting and dashboard tools.
  • Advanced degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.

What you can expect

  • An inspirational place for you to do your best work, be engaged in meaningful ways, and continually develop the skills, competencies and qualities that set our team apart.
  • Compensation commensurate with your qualifications, experience, and other factors including geographic location, market and operational factors.
