Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Lock and Dam Equipment Repairer Supervisor without more than normal supervision. To meet the screen out element, applicants should document experience and/or show the ability to perform common duties as a shift head lock and dam operator such as being responsible for site operations during second, third, and swing shift or on leave days; performing and directing the locking of boats and dam gate operations; and performing, assisting, and/or directing other lock personnel in installation, repair and maintenance tasks; and being responsible for directing and/or accomplishing all routine or special lock operating gate operations, and maintenance tasks as assigned and for exercising primary authority over use of locks during work shift when working independently of immediate supervision. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc.

  • Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic)
  • Trouble Shooting
  • Physical Efforts: Work requires frequent standing, stooping, stretching, climbing and crouching. Lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds. May occasionally lift and carry items weighing over 50 pounds. Uses coordination of eyes, hands and feet, and also of legs and body in installing, repairing, or testing equipment in confined areas such as manholes, enclosed switchgear structures, or on overhead structures. Climbs ladder and poles.
  • Working Conditions: Works inside and outside, subject to changing climatic conditions, loud noises, prolonged standing, falling, water hazards, drowning, cuts and bruises. Works in cramped places and is exposed to dirt, grease, fumes, and dust; works around heavy construction machinery with and around power shop equipment. Occasionally will work behind bulkheads or in tunnels below water level.
