The Technical Director will oversee the engineering and technical aspects of the teams’ operations. The Technical Director plays a crucial role in shaping the technical direction of the team, driving innovation, and ensuring competitive success on the track.

Essential Job Functions And Responsibilities

  • Ensure Setup Development Manager, Engineering Manager, and Testing Manager are aware of the goals of the team. Work with each department to formulate processes to achieve each goal.
  • Be single point of contact for “customer” teams on engineering services that Team has agreed to provide throughout the season.
  • Work with OEM to ensure engineering support provided to Team meets the standards set by the team. Communicate any deficiencies or additional needs to appropriate OEM representative.
  • Work with direct reports to build development plans for current team members so that growth opportunities for the Team can be met with existing personnel.
  • Analyzing data collected during races and testing sessions to identify areas for improvement and develop strategies to enhance vehicle performance.
  • Work with Competition Director, Crew Chiefs, and Race Engineers to ensure their engineering needs are met and develop vehicle development needs based on collaboration with them.
  • Ensure Vehicle Operations Department receives clear car build process documentation, mileage limits, and service intervals and provide path for feedback to perfect and improve standards.
  • Bachelor’s Degree (four-year college or technical school) in Mechanical Engineering or related degree
  • 7-10 years of extensive experience in working in motorsports, preferably progressively senior positions. Experience in vehicle design, development and race engineering is highly valued.
  • Strong leadership and management abilities are essential for overseeing technical teams effectively.
  • Experience in project management is beneficial for managing complex engineering projects, allocating resources effectively, and ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Solid understanding of core concepts including mechanics, kinematics, aerodynamics, fluid mechanics, energy and structural analysis required
  • Racing experience preferred
  • Must be highly analytical with the ability to make recommendations supported by data trends
  • Must be thorough with a strong sense of attention to detail
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Must work well under pressure with the ability to meet tight deadlines
  • Proven ability to build internal relationships and interact with all levels of the organization
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively
  • Self-motivated, driven, success-oriented individual with collaborative communication style
  • The determination to work harder than anyone you know
