Position Summary
This role ensures that the moving parts in each client’s case happen the right way at the right time. The Legal Assistant is responsible for managing all aspects of assigned client cases, including client introductory calls; scheduling meetings and court appearances; gathering and filing paperwork; and communicating important information to the client, attorney(s), staff members, and courts. They also provide support to the larger legal department and their fellow legal assistants.
This position also encompasses the administrative, operational, and client-service functions for a satellite office. They manage day-to-day office operations and ensure a well-organized, efficient, and professional environment.

Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary contact for all assigned clients and establish and maintain an authentic relationship with each client
- Manage all phases of each client case, including prioritizing tasks related to each case
- Learn about the requirements and nuances of the jurisdictions (counties) assigned
- Interpret legal documents and navigate the next steps
- Draft and review motions
- Gather information from clients, district attorneys, and courts in a timely manner
- Respond to all case-related inquiries from both internal and external sources in a timely manner
- Use case management software (ActionStep) to record daily actions/communications for all cases
- Manage all calendaring and scheduling needs for clients and attorney
- Process E-filing Oregon for required clients
- Answer phone calls and respond to emails
- Provide back-up support and coverage to other members of the LA team and attorneys
- Ensure a professional and functional office environment, including light reception and administrative duties
- High School diploma required
- 2-5 years' experience as a legal assistant, paralegal or other law firm experience preferred
- Experience in an administrative support role preferred
- Ability to learn and understand new concepts and processes related to criminal defense legal work
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment managing a high volume of work
- Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong time management skills with a proven ability to prioritize based on deadlines
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail; high level of accuracy
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and ability to exercise discretion and good judgment
- Able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
- Adaptable and willing to pivot as needed
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat; comfortable learning and using new software programs quickly
- Experience with case management software a plus
- Compensation $23 - $28 per hour Bonus opportunities
