Summary
'We are seeking an experienced Optical Fabrication Manager to provide the leadership, planning, organization, direction, coordination, and control to meet the technical, financial, and delivery objectives of the Fabrication Department.
Requirements:
- US Person as defined by 22 CFR 120.15 (Citizen, Permanent Resident).
- BS degree in engineering or equivalent experience.
- 10 years experience in optical fabrication manufacturing or equivalent experience.
- 5 years minimum experience as a supervisor (preferred).
- Fluent in compositional and conversational English.
- Proficient with various optical metrology equipment.
- Thorough understanding of all relevant national and international optical specifications (MIL specs, ISO, ANSI, DIN3140).
- Demonstrated experience with statistical process control (SPC) concepts and methods.
- Extensive experience in polishing infrared materials, including but not limited to:
o Germanium
o Silicon
o Zinc Selenide
o Gallium Arsenide
o And other IR, crystalline, hard, and soft materials
- Ability to problem solve issues associated with manufacture of precision optics.
- Ability to set up, operate, and maintain fabrication equipment without supervision or direction.
- Fluent in operation of the following metrology equipment:
o Fizeau interferometer
o Auto collimators
o Calipers
o Micrometers
o Surface Profilometers
- Ability to perform in the following working conditions:
o Able to stand for long periods of time
o Exposure to chemicals, solvents, and oils
o Use of PPE
Authority:
Hire, fire, change the compensation and/or duties of, or to promote employees in a direct reporting relationship, provided these actions fall within established company policy and budget constraints.
Make purchases of equipment, material, operating supplies, and professional services as approved in the company budget.
Develop and implement department operating policies and procedures consistent with established company policies and procedures.
Manage the daily operating activities for all optical fabrication processes, including resource allocation, job scheduling, and personnel matters.
To direct the work activity of subordinates.
Responsibilities:
Follow Reynard Quality Management System (QMS)
The Manager, FAB is responsible for the following planning and organizing activities:
o Design the most cost effective and high yielding process from raw material to finished component
o Ability to design tooling and generate process documents for the fabrication process.
o Daily status review of open Sales Orders, including best estimate of % complete and Estimated Time to Completion (ETC).
o Plan and coordinate FAB department resources to most efficiently meet the needs, expectations and schedules of Reynard Customers.
o Develop proper inventory and re-order levels for selected FAB department supplies and materials.
o Specify and submit [RFQ / PO]’s for materials and supplies required for timely delivery of product.
o Estimate and prepare an annual FAB Department Capital Budget.
o Establish and monitor the career development and advancement of subordinates.
The Manager, FAB is responsible for the following supervising control activities:
o Train junior technicians.
o Verify technical accuracy and completeness of all departmental routers; work with Sales department to resolve issues as required.
o Operate and maintain conventional polishing spindles and/or CP polishers.
o Ensure all product is properly inspected and meets all IP requirements prior to delivery to next manufacturing step.
o Establish and maintain Quality and Performance Standards for FAB department personnel.
o Provide [hands-on / verbal] technical assistance to Optical Technicians as required to ensure efficient manufacture of compliant product
o Work with other department managers as required to efficiently resolve resource allocation issues.
The Manager, FAB is responsible for the following communication activities:
o Attend the Production Meeting and provide status / support as required.
o Participate in new job opportunity (BOE) meetings.
o Have sufficient contact with Sales personnel to clearly ascertain, support, and manage Customer needs and expectations.
o Institute staff meetings as appropriate to ensure FAB department personnel are aware of objectives and progress of the company and are in compliance with company policies and procedures.
o Periodically review, evaluate, and provide constructive criticism to department personnel on the quality of their work.
R&D of new materials and processes.
The Manager, FAB will assume other responsibilities as assigned by Supervisor/Manager.
