Position Summary
The Production Supervisor is responsible for leading, directing, and coordinating manufacturing operations to ensure the safe, efficient, and high-quality production of automotive components. This role provides front-line leadership to production team members and is accountable for meeting daily production targets, maintaining quality standards, promoting safety, and reinforcing company values and continuous improvement principles.
The Production Supervisor serves as a role model for leadership behavior, problem-solving, and compliance with company policies, customer requirements, and applicable regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Safety (Primary Responsibility)
- Actively promote, enforce, and model compliance with all safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct routine safety audits and observations to identify unsafe conditions or behaviors; initiate and follow through on corrective actions.
- Investigate and document safety incidents and near-misses, including root cause analysis and implementation of short- and long-term countermeasures.
- Evaluate production motions and work methods to reduce ergonomic risk and unnecessary physical strain.
- Ensure new team members complete required safety training and certification checkpoints.
Quality
- Champion “quality at the source” principles to meet or exceed internal and external customer requirements.
- Ensure adherence to defined quality checkpoints and standard inspection processes throughout production.
- Support quality investigations, containment actions, and corrective actions in collaboration with the Quality department.
- Reinforce compliance with quality systems, procedures, and customer-specific requirements.
Leadership, Culture, and Team Development
- Foster a respectful, inclusive, and team-oriented work environment aligned with company values.
- Treat all employees with dignity and respect while maintaining accountability and performance expectations.
- Coach, mentor, and develop team members through regular feedback, training, and performance evaluations (30/60/90-day, mid-year, and annual).

Lean Manufacturing / Toyota Production System (TPS)
- Demonstrate working knowledge of all assigned production processes and workflows.
- Lead and participate in continuous improvement initiatives (Kaizen), utilizing tools such as 5S, PDCA, root cause analysis, and waste elimination.
- Develop, update, train, and audit standard work procedures.
- Identify and reduce waste (muda), variation, and inefficiencies within production processes.
Production and Shift Operations
- Lead daily shift start-up meetings and ensure effective communication of priorities, goals, and issues.
- Direct and coordinate production activities to meet safety, quality, delivery, and cost objectives.
- Monitor and manage key performance indicators (KPIs) and initiate corrective actions for negative trends.
- Respond promptly to Andon calls and production interruptions to minimize downtime.
- Coordinate closely with Maintenance, Quality, and other support departments to ensure smooth operations.
- Perform inventory checks and confirm correct production scheduling and Kanban mix.
- Balance time between the production floor and administrative duties, with the majority of time spent on the shop floor.
- Perform additional duties as reasonably assigned by management.
Required Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Operations Management, Business Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of two (2) years of leadership experience in a manufacturing environment; automotive manufacturing experience strongly preferred.
- Prior supervisory experience is highly desirable.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Working knowledge of lean manufacturing and/or Toyota Production System principles preferred.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, including experience with root cause analysis, PDCA, and data-driven decision-making.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate with employees at all organizational levels.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
- Forklift experience or ability to obtain certification as required.
Physical and Environmental Requirements
The physical demands described below are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this job, with or without reasonable accommodation:
- Ability to stand and walk on the production floor for extended periods of time (up to 8–10 hours per shift).
- Frequent bending, reaching, stooping, and movement throughout the manufacturing environment.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds independently and up to 50 pounds with team assistance.
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment that is not climate-controlled and may be exposed to heat, cold, humidity, noise, and moving equipment.
- Vision, hearing, and communication abilities sufficient to safely perform supervisory duties in a production environment.
Work Schedule and Overtime
- Must be flexible to work extended hours, weekends, and holidays as business needs require, sometimes with minimal notice.
