Reyes Group, LTD is seeking a seasoned Heavy/Civil Estimator to lead the preparation of accurate and competitive cost estimates for complex infrastructure projects. This role involves analyzing blueprints, specifications, and proposals to develop detailed labor, material, and equipment estimates for federal and state-funded heavy civil projects. The estimator will manage all phases of the contract lifecycle—from bidding and scheduling to construction and closeout—while maintaining strong communication with field personnel, clients, and subcontractors. Proficiency in HCSS Estimating Software is required, along with a solid understanding of project logistics, scheduling, and financial analysis. The ideal candidate will bring 5–8 years of industry experience, technical expertise, and a collaborative mindset to support successful project delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and analyze blueprints, specifications, proposals, and related documents to prepare accurate time, labor, and cost estimates for work including structural concrete, excavation, support of excavation, and utilities (storm, sanitary, watermain).
  • Manage multiple estimates concurrently and collaborate with field personnel to resolve technical questions, RFIs, and change order issues.
  • Determine project requirements by studying design documents, client expectations, and performance standards.
  • Lead estimating efforts for hard-bid, negotiated, and design-build projects in both public and private sectors.
  • Prepare job packages, assist with scheduling, track job costs, manage permitting, and professionally interface with clients, owners, and subcontractors.
  • Develop thorough quantity takeoffs and complete all pricing elements, including labor, materials, buyout items, equipment, and crane costs.
  • Attend pre-bid meetings and evaluate plans, specifications, and proposals to define scope of work.
  • Incorporate safety considerations into estimating decisions, methods, and construction approaches.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, subcontractors, owners, and general contractors.
  • Assist Project Managers in evaluating project risks, costs, and feasibility.
  • Lead the project buyout process in coordination with the Project Manager.
  • Mentor and develop estimating staff and support team growth through recruitment and training.

Qualifications:

  • 10–15 years of proven experience estimating large civil, self-perform projects.
  • Strong knowledge and field experience in structural concrete, excavation, support of excavation, and utilities (storm, sanitary, watermain).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with contractors, suppliers, and internal teams.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and analyze technical and legal documents.
  • Familiarity with related structural products (joists, deck, stairs, rails, anchor rods, etc.).
  • Ability to define scope of work, including inclusions, exclusions, and qualifications.
  • Proficient with construction terminology, estimating software, and general computer applications.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Experience with Tekla (preferred, not required).
  • Proficiency with HCSS estimating software.
