Position Overview
The Digital Content Creator is responsible for developing engaging multimedia content that effectively communicates the City of Alexandria, Virginia Sanitation Authority d/b/a AlexRenew's mission, services, and impact on the community. This role focuses on creating high-quality visual storytelling through photography, videography, and other digital mediums to connect with our diverse stakeholders including customers, community members, and internal staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Create compelling photo and video content for AlexRenew's website, social media channels, email campaigns, and print materials
- Produce engaging visual content that explains complex water treatment processes and environmental initiatives in accessible ways
- Capture and document AlexRenew events, facilities, staff activities, and community outreach programs
- Develop multimedia content that aligns with AlexRenew's strategic communication goals and brand identity
- Edit and optimize content for various platforms (website, social media, presentations)
- Maintain a cohesive visual style across all digital assets
- Collaborate with the communications team to conceptualize and execute creative campaigns
- Stay current with digital content trends, tools, and best practices
- Ensure all content meets accessibility standards and technical requirements
- Organize and maintain AlexRenew's digital asset library
Required Qualifications
- Proven experience (3 years) in digital content creation, with emphasis on photography and videography
- Demonstrated skill in visual storytelling and translating complex topics into engaging content
- Proficiency with professional camera equipment and lighting systems
- Expert knowledge of photo and video editing software (Adobe Creative Suite preferred)
- Experience with motion graphics, sound design, and post-production techniques
- Strong understanding of digital content optimization for various platforms
- Portfolio demonstrating high-quality multimedia work
- Excellent collaborative and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects with attention to detail and deadlines
- Knowledge of accessibility standards for digital content
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with utilities, environmental organizations, or public sector entities
- Background in creating educational or informational content about technical subjects
- Familiarity with water/wastewater treatment concepts or willingness to learn
