Position Summary
The Facility Manager is responsible for the daily operations, maintenance, and overall management of the ice arena. This position ensures that all facility systems—including ice operations, mechanical systems, building maintenance, and customer service—are running safely, efficiently, and in alignment with the organization’s standards. The Facility Manager will supervise staff, oversee scheduling, and work closely with the programming and hockey departments to deliver an exceptional experience for all guests.
Key Responsibilities
Operations & Maintenance
- Oversee the daily operation of the ice arena, including the ice surface, refrigeration systems, HVAC, lighting, and general building maintenance.
- Maintain optimal ice conditions through consistent resurfacing, temperature regulation, and humidity control.
- Work with outside support to develop and manage preventative maintenance schedules for all equipment and systems.
- Coordinate and supervise facility repairs, vendors, and contractors.
- Ensure cleanliness, safety, and functionality of all public and staff areas.
Staff Supervision & Training
- Work along side the General Manager to hire, train, schedule, and supervise facility operations staff, including Zamboni drivers, custodians, and maintenance personnel.
- Provide ongoing training in safety procedures, equipment operation, and customer service.
- Maintain positive and professional team culture among operations staff.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal safety and environmental regulations.
- Maintain safety logs, incident reports, and equipment inspection records.
- Oversee building security, emergency preparedness, and response procedures.
- Conduct regular facility walk-throughs to identify and resolve potential hazards.
Financial & Administrative
- Assist General Manager with budget preparation, expense tracking, and inventory control for maintenance supplies and equipment.
- Obtain quotes and manage relationships with vendors and service providers.
- Support energy conservation and cost-saving initiatives to improve efficiency.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and logs.
Customer Experience & Event Support
- Work collaboratively with the Hockey and Figure Skating departments to ensure smooth facility operations for all programs and events.
- Manage facility setup and breakdown for games, tournaments, parties, and public skating events.
- Provide exceptional customer service to guests, teams, and rental clients.
Ice and Equipment Management
- Operate and maintain ice resurfacing machines, edgers, and related equipment.
- Monitor ice thickness, quality, and temperature daily.
- Schedule and manage regular ice maintenance, including painting, and flooding.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 3–5 years of facility operations or maintenance experience (ice rink experience preferred, but not mandatory).
- Strong understanding of refrigeration systems, HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems(or willing to learn).
- Experience operating ice resurfacing equipment (Zamboni certification preferred, or willing to learn).
- Supervisory or leadership experience required.
- Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Valid driver’s license; mechanical aptitude and basic computer literacy required.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform manual labor.
- Comfortable working in cold environments and around mechanical equipment.
- Able to stand, bend, and move for extended periods.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $40,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
