Position Summary
We are seeking a compassionate and dependable Team Lead – Direct Support Professional (DSP) to provide both direct client support and team leadership within our supported living agency. This position combines hands-on direct support with supervisory responsibilities, ensuring high-quality, person-centered services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
The Team Lead DSP will act as a role model, trainer, and first point of contact for DSP staff, supporting daily operations, filling in for shifts when needed, and fostering a positive team culture.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Oversight
- Provide day-to-day guidance and oversight to DSP staff, ensuring quality care and compliance with policies and state regulations.
- Serve as point of contact for DSPs regarding shift duties, scheduling changes, and client concerns.
- Monitor staff performance and provide constructive feedback.
- Support the Program Coordinator/Administrator in maintaining a safe and supportive environment.
Training & Mentorship
- Train and onboard new DSPs on agency policies, care plans, and client-specific supports.
- Offer ongoing coaching and mentoring to staff, promoting skill development.
- Lead refresher trainings on daily living supports, de-escalation, medication assistance, and documentation.
- Model best practices in communication and client engagement.
Direct Support
- Provide direct care services when staffing coverage is needed.
- Assist clients with personal care, meal preparation, transportation, and community inclusion.
- Implement individualized service/support plans and maintain accurate documentation.
- Foster independence, dignity, and inclusion for all clients.
Collaboration & Communication
- Communicate staff needs, client updates, and operational issues to the Program Coordinator/Administrator.
- Act as a liaison between DSPs and leadership.
- Participate in care planning, team meetings, and interdisciplinary discussions.
- Assist in emergency response and crisis management when needed.
Qualifications
- Must have current HCA or CNA certification (required).
- Must be 18 years or older with a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Previous experience as a Direct Support Professional (DSP) or in a similar caregiving role required.
- Leadership or supervisory experience strongly preferred.
- Knowledge and experience with computer applications: Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel.
- Experience with Therap or other electronic documentation systems.
- Knowledge of creating and implementing IISPs (Individual Instruction and Support Plans) and FA/PBSPs (Functional Assessment/Positive Behavior Support Plans) preferred.
