Position Summary / What You'll Do
The Transportation Technical Engineer is a senior-level role focused on providing technical depth, innovation, and quality assurance across transportation projects. While not always the project lead, you will serve as a go-to expert for complex design tasks, mentor staff, and help shape RETTEW's technical practices.
Responsibilities / Day-to-Day
- Review and stamp complex or design-critical drawings and deliverables when licensed.
- Serve as a subject matter expert in specialized technical areas such as structural stability, advanced modeling, or complex roadway and traffic geometries.
- Provide engineering judgment, technical guidance, and mentoring to junior and mid-level staff.
- Participate in peer review sessions and provide solutions for difficult design and constructability challenges.
- Collaborate in research and development of new materials, methods, or technologies while contributing to design standards and internal practices.
- Support proposals and pursuits for technically demanding projects, helping to define technical scope and risk.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil, Transportation, or Structural Engineering
- PE license
- 15 years of technical experience in transportation or structural engineering
- Recognized expertise in complex technical areas
- Strong technical writing and presentation skills
- Experience mentoring staff
Preferred:
- Master's degree
- Background in advanced computational modeling or innovative design practices
