What are the responsibilities and job description for the Associate Advisor position at retirement advocates?
Associate Advisor / Advisor-in-Development
Client Stewardship, Education & Growth Role
Kenosha - Wisconsin
About Our Firm
We are a values-based, process-driven retirement planning firm serving individuals and families approaching or in retirement. Our work focuses on clarity, confidence, education, and long-term relationships — not hype, sales pressure, speculation, or one-size-fits-all solutions.
We operate with proven systems, a clearly defined client experience (including our WealthCare365 model), and a team-based approach. Our goal is to build a strong, well-run Kenosha office that serves as a model for thoughtful growth into additional locations over time.
About the Role
This position is designed for someone who is intentionally choosing a career path as a financial advisor and wants to develop into that role the right way — by learning systems, serving clients well, and earning increasing responsibility.
The role begins with hands-on training and integration into our processes, with the expectation that the right candidate will be running client appointments within approximately 3–4 months, with ongoing support and guidance.
This is a structured role with a defined onboarding and training period, designed to develop advisory skills before full responsibility is assumed.
It is a long-term opportunity within a real advisory firm — not a commission-only position.
What You'll Be Doing
Over time, responsibilities will include:
- Helping build, refine, and execute our WealthCare365 client care system, ensuring it is consistently delivered and continually improved
- Supporting and eventually leading client review meetings
- Conducting fact-finding and discovery meetings
- Learning and following our established advisory and sales process
- Making outbound calls to warm leads and existing contacts to help set appointments
- (This role does not involve cold calling. Most new relationships come through educational workshops, client referrals, and ongoing follow-up.)
- Assisting with and, over time, helping teach our Retirement Masterclass
- (Evening availability, sometimes Saturday morning, required as needed)
- Preparing for and participating in client meetings
- Helping manage and engage our CRM and databases.
- Identifying opportunities to improve systems, workflows, and overall client experience utilizing our technology platforms
Training & Growth
- Initial focus on learning systems, appointment process, and client experience
- Gradual increase in client-facing responsibility
- Learning how different financial strategies and products are used, and how to determine appropriate solutions based on a client's specific goals and circumstances.
- Expected progression to running appointments within 3–4 months
- Ongoing coaching, feedback, and professional development
Compensation
This role includes a base/draw structure with additional variable compensation tied to closed business, along with eligibility to participate in a quarterly firm-wide profit bonus. Compensation details will be discussed during the interview process. Indeed requires a posted pay range. Actual starting pay within the posted range will be based on experience, licensing status, and role progression.
What We're Looking For
- A genuine interest in becoming a financial advisor as a long-term career
- Strong listening and communication skills - written and verbal
- Comfort with structure, systems, and accountability
- Willingness to learn, follow and help improve established processes
- Professional, reliable, and client-focused
- Ability to engage with clients and prospects comfortably (including phone outreach)
- Willingness to assist with evening educational classes as needed
- Life & Health insurance license, or willingness to obtain promptly; willingness to obtain the Series 65 within approximately 6 months
- This is an in-person position in our Kensha office so the ability to commute easily every day to Kenosha is essential
This Role Is a Good Fit If You:
- Want to build real advisory skills, in a consultative environment
- Appreciate clear expectations and proven systems
- Enjoy helping people understand complex topics and helping solve their problems
- Are coachable, curious, and process-oriented
- Want growth and responsibility without being thrown in unprepared
- Value personal development, ongoing learning opportunities, occasional travel for advanced education
This Role Is Likely Not a Fit If You:
- Are primarily interested in trading, market analysis, crypto, or stock picking
- Are "trying things out" or unsure of your long-term career direction
- Are more interested in learning about investing than serving clients through a defined planning process
- Prefer working independently rather than being part of a team-based, process-driven firm
- Do not enjoy frequent interaction with clients and prospects
- Find active listening challenging or prefer to do most of the talking
- Are uncomfortable with structure, accountability, and follow-through
- Are looking for a quick transition to commission-only or independent work
- Looking for one and done type sales transactions and not focused on building ongoing trusted relationships
