Job Summary
We are currently seeking a full-time Ophthalmic Technician for our retina practice in the Altoona Area. We are looking for a candidate who is caring and compassionate, eager to learn, who is looking for a patient-centered, team-focused workplace. Technicians assist ophthalmologists in diagnosing and treating diseases of the retina, conducting various eye tests and examinations, and maintaining patient records.
Responsibilities
- Display ability to perform patient work up: Patient evaluations by documenting chief complaints, history of present illness, review of systems, past surgeries, medications, and pertinent ocular findings in accordance with guidelines.
- Able to demonstrate skill, knowledge and accuracy using clinical instruments: Perform pre-exam testing, including visual acuity assessments, tonometry, pupillary dilation, and other patient services as requested by the physician.
- Set up for procedures, including intravitreal injections, which involves pulling the drug and documenting necessary information in EMR. Perform regular audits through system to monitor inventory.
- Knowledge and ability to perform proper EMR clinical chart documentation: Utilizes patient, accessing information related to treatment and health operations.
Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent required (GED)
- Great interpersonal skills and professionalism.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Understanding of medical terminology is required.
- Proficient typing skills with previous experience using electronic health records (e.g. EPIC, NextGen).
- Previous medical office clinical experience is preferred; prior experience in ophthalmology is a plus.
- Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA), Certified Medical Scribe (COS), or Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) strongly preferred.
- Local travel required (20%).
- Must have flexible hours (early mornings/late evenings).
