Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and organized Clinical Assistant to join our healthcare team in the Altoona and Johnstown area. We are looking for a candidate who is caring and compassionate, eager to learn, and who is looking for a patient-centered, team-focused workplace. Clinical Assistants assist ophthalmologists in diagnosing and treating diseases of the retina, conducting various eye tests and examinations, and maintaining patient records.
Responsibilities
- Initiate patient evaluation, documenting the chief complaint, history of present illness, review of systems, past surgeries, all medications, and all pertinent ocular findings accurately in accordance with compliance guidelines.
- Perform pre-exam testing to include visual acuity assessment, tonometry, pupillary dilation, and all other patient services as requested by the physician.
- Setup for procedures including intravitreal injections, pulling drug, documenting in EHR with lot number, expiration date and other pertinent drug data.
- Clean surgical instruments in preparation for sterile processing.
- Conduct inventory of instrument supply as directed.
- Assist with maintenance of clinical exam equipment as directed.
- Ordering of clinical supplies as directed.
- Open and close exam and injection rooms
- Assist in photography if trained to do so.
Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent required (GED)
- Outstanding interpersonal skills as well as neat and professional appearance are mandatory.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent typing skills and previous electronic health record experience such as EPIC, Nextgen, etc. Previous experience with NextTech is highly desirable
- Previous medical office clinical experience and previous ophthalmology experience preferred.
- Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA), Certified Medical Scribe (COS), or Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) strongly preferred.
- Valid driver’s license
- Local travel required (25%).
- Must have flexible hours (early mornings/late evenings).
