General Definition of Work
The retention and rewards specialist, under general supervision, performs complex and intermediate-level work with limited decision-making discretion and is responsible for implementing retention and reward initiatives for staff including the CMS housing initiative, career advancement opportunities, wellness, and recognition efforts. Employee performs district-level work to carry out Board of Education policies and procedures under the direction of the Executive Director of Retention and Rewards.

Place of Work
The normal place of work is on the premises used by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. Charlotte- Mecklenburg Schools reserves the right to require you to work at such other place(s) as it may reasonably require from time to time.
Essential Functions
- Adhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and procedures
- Investigate, analyze, formulate, and recommend methods for handling special projects/reports
- Implement retention and rewards and recognition initiatives and programs as outlined in the strategic plan
- Recommend creative solutions and employee perks to keep highly qualified staff engaged
- Implement school staffing solutions and district retention plans
- Collaborate to expand community partnerships and staff-level support
- Partner cross-functionally with other divisions such as Human Resources, Strategy & Innovation, Communications, and Community Engagement, etc.
- Plan, coordinate, and organize special events and programs such as Teacher of the Year
- Develop and maintain databases related to retention and reward initiatives
- Develop workflow processes, process maps, and standard operating procedures
- Analyze data to evaluate programs and recommend data driven improvements
- Complete local, state, or federal surveys and reports accurately and promptly
- Prepare reports, memos, presentations, and other correspondence as requested
- Participate in professional development and other meetings
- Create an inclusive environment with positive communication/public relations
- Perform related work as assigned or required
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures of public schools
- Knowledge of school board and administrator objectives, procedures, and organization
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local policies/regulations regarding curriculum planning and organizational development
- Knowledge of county and school board policies, procedures, and standards
- Skilled in communication, both verbal and written
- Ability to operate with a good deal of ambiguity
- Ability to maintain professional and emotional control under stress
- Ability to reflect appropriate response to situations, while maintaining a professional and personal demeanor
- Ability to learn and use specialized tools, equipment or software related to business needs

Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in education or related field required
- Minimum of three (3) years’ experience as a teacher or related field required
- Equivalent combination of education and experience
Special Requirements
- Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license or ability to provide own transportation
- Travel to school district buildings and professional meetings
