About the Position:
The Pricing and Promotions Manager will be a critical member of the Merchandising team, responsible for maximizing revenue and profit margins through strategic pricing decisions and effective promotional planning. This role requires a strong analytical mindset, deep understanding of retail dynamics, and excellent communication skills to collaborate with internal teams and external suppliers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and analyze promotional strategies across various product categories to drive sales volume while maintaining margin targets.
- Conduct in-depth analysis of sales performance, competitive pricing, and market trends to recommend optimal base pricing and promotional discounts.
- Collaborate with Category Managers and Procurement teams to negotiate favorable pricing and promotional funding with suppliers (Co-Op, MDF, rebates).
- Monitor the effectiveness of all pricing and promotional activities, providing actionable post-mortem analyses and recommendations for future improvements.
- Maintain and manage the pricing system (e.g., ERP, POS), ensuring accuracy and timely implementation of all price changes and promotions.
Core Duties and Expectations:
1. Pricing Strategy & Execution
- Base Pricing: Analyze elasticity and cost-to-serve to establish profitable, competitive base prices for key products.
- Competitive Analysis: Regularly monitor and report on competitor pricing strategies and promotional activities, adjusting internal strategies as necessary.
- Margin Management: Proactively identify opportunities to improve gross margin through effective cost management and pricing optimization.
2. Promotional Planning & Analysis
- Promotion Calendar: Develop and manage a comprehensive promotional calendar aligned with sales targets and marketing initiatives.
- Forecasting: Work with Merchandising team to accurately forecast the sales lift and financial impact of planned promotions.
- Performance Measurement: Utilize key metrics (ROI, incremental sales, lift) to evaluate promotion success and generate detailed reports for leadership.
3. Supplier Collaboration & Funding
- Negotiation Support: Provide analytical support to Category Managers during supplier negotiations, specifically focusing on securing promotional allowances, discounts, and funding structures.
- Accurate Tracking: Ensure all negotiated supplier funding and trade spend is accurately recorded, claimed, and accounted for.
4. Reporting & Systems
- Develop and automate regular pricing and promotional performance dashboards.
- Serve as the subject matter expert for pricing and promotional tools and databases.
- Present findings and strategic recommendations clearly and confidently to senior management.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Statistics, or a related quantitative field.
- Experience: 3 years of experience in pricing analysis, promotions planning, or financial analysis within a retail or CPG (Consumer Packaged Goods) environment is highly preferred.
- Technical Skills:
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (VLOOKUPs, pivot tables, modeling) is required.
- Experience using price optimization software and Business Intelligence solutions and SQL advance user.
Salary : $90,000 - $120,000
