The Director of Music (DM) helps Resurrection Lutheran Church (RLC) praise and thankGod through music.II. The DM regularly communicates with the RLC leadership through text, email, and thetelephone in addition to face-to-face.III. The DM is accountable to the Pastor, Board of Elders, and congregation of RLC.IV. The purpose of the position of DM is to serve the Lord and the RLC congregation by:A. Developing, coordinating, and administering an effective and well-rounded musicministryB. Providing leadership to and supervision of all those involved in the music ministryC. Serving as primary organist, providing appropriate musical accompaniment duringworship services and other church programsPrimary Duties and ResponsibilitiesI. Worship PlanningA. Responds to the scriptural and liturgical theme of each service with like-minded hymns,anthems, preludes, postludes and voluntaries.B. Recruits and directs the vocal choir and soloistsC. Trains the vocal choir in:a. choral techniquesb. appreciation of sacred musicc. participation in worshipD. Guides the accompanist during rehearsals, worship services and other programsE. Supervises the organization and direction of other instrumental ensembles, e.g. brass,wind and stringed instruments, etc. including visiting musicians as appropriateF. Prepares appropriate music for weddings, funerals, and special servicesG. Plans and organizes concerts and festivals in coordination with the RLC Pastor andEldersII. SchedulingA. Selects and purchases music, worship and music resources, services ofoutside instrumentalists, musical instruments and equipmentii. Develops and supervises the maintenance of the music libraryiii. Supervises the maintenance of all RLC-owned music materials andinstruments, ensuring compliance with licensing and copyright lawiv. Establishes departmental goals and objectivesv. Manages the use of musical facilitiesvi. Plans and presents a yearly budget to RLC Church Councilvii. Evaluates progress regularlyviii.
