Collect and process urine specimens from patients receiving treatment in a substance abuse treatment/recovery facility, ensuring proper labeling and chain of custody procedures are followed, while maintaining patient privacy and adhering to strict regulations regarding drug testing within the facility's recovery program.

Key responsibilities:

Specimen collection:

  • Collect urine, saliva, or other bodily fluid samples from patients as directed by medical staff.
  • Verify patient identity before collection using established protocols.
  • Follow proper collection procedures to maintain sample integrity.
  • Observe patients during collection to deter tampering.
  • Documentation and labeling:
  • Accurately label all specimens with patient information and collection details.
  • Complete necessary paperwork documenting collection process and any observations.
  • Chain of custody:
  • Maintain a secure chain of custody for specimens throughout the collection and transportation process.
  • Adhere to strict guidelines regarding sample handling and storage.
  • Patient interaction:
  • Provide clear instructions to patients regarding specimen collection procedures.
  • Address patient concerns and maintain a respectful and professional demeanor.
  • Compliance and quality control:
  • Stay updated on all relevant regulations regarding drug testing and specimen collection.
  • Report any irregularities or potential issues with specimens to the appropriate personnel.
  • Participate in quality control procedures to ensure accuracy of testing. Required skills:

Required Skills:

  • Attention to detail: Accurate labeling and adherence to procedures are critical.
  • Strong communication skills: Ability to clearly instruct patients and interact professionally.
  • Confidentiality: Maintaining patient privacy is paramount.
  • Basic medical knowledge: Understanding of specimen collection techniques and potential issues.
  • Variable hours, less than 40 per week
