Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough physical examinations and patient assessments, including vital signs, medical history reviews, and physiological evaluations.
- Manage acute and chronic conditions across various specialties such as geriatrics, pediatrics, internal medicine, emergency medicine, and behavioral health.
- Administer medications, injections, IV infusions, and perform suturing with sterile technique.
- Utilize EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems like Epic, Cerner, eClinicalWorks, and Athenahealth for accurate documentation and medical records management.
- Assist with diagnostic procedures such as sonography, spinal taps, catheterizations, and laboratory specimen collection/processing.
- Provide telehealth consultations and participate in case management to coordinate patient care effectively.
- Support specialized treatments including esthetic laser therapy, wound care including catheter care, ventilator management, and infection control protocols.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop discharge planning strategies and ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Engage in clinical research initiatives to advance evidence-based practices within the organization.
Requirements
- Valid Nurse Practitioner license with current certification to practice in the relevant state or region.
- Proven experience in critical care settings such as ICU or Level I Trauma Centers; hospital medicine or emergency room experience is highly desirable.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, physiology, ICD coding (ICD-9/10), CPT coding for procedures, and utilization review processes.
- Hands-on experience with EMR/EHR systems like Epic, Cerner, or Athenahealth; proficiency in medical documentation is essential.
- Demonstrated ability to perform advanced procedures including IV insertion, venipuncture (phlebotomy), tube feeding management, and sterile processing techniques.
- Experience working with diverse populations such as pediatric patients (including neonatal ventilator management), elderly patients in memory or dementia care settings, or individuals with developmental disabilities.
- Familiarity with specialty areas like gastroenterology, hospice & palliative medicine, occupational health, infectious disease care, or post-acute care is a plus.
- Critical thinking skills combined with excellent communication abilities to educate patients and collaborate effectively within healthcare teams.
