● Monitor ventilator function, prescribed settings, alarms, tubing and the child’s
response.
● Verify the availability and readiness of suction, emergency airway supplies,
backup power and other prescribed emergency equipment.
● Respond promptly to respiratory distress, airway obstruction, accidental
decannulation, equipment failure and other emergencies using the child-specific
emergency plan.
● Change ventilator settings only under appropriate authorized orders and agency
procedures.
G-tube care, nutrition and medications
● Administer prescribed enteral feedings, water flushes and medications using
appropriate equipment and safety checks.
● Monitor feeding tolerance, intake/output, tube-site condition and signs of
complications.
● Provide prescribed tube-site care and promptly report concerns.
● Administer medications and treatments accurately and document administration,
effectiveness, omissions and adverse responses.
Daily nursing care and development
● Provide positioning, hygiene, skin protection, mobility assistance and other care
included in the nursing plan.
● Use safe transfer techniques and prescribed equipment.
● Support age-appropriate interaction, comfort, play and developmental activities
as the child’s condition permits.
● Follow infection-prevention practices, hand hygiene, equipment-cleaning
procedures and safe sharps disposal.
Documentation and handoff
● Document assessments, interventions, responses, medications, feedings and
significant events accurately and promptly.
● Use RHHC’s designated electronic documentation and electronic visit verification
systems, where applicable.
● Give and receive a structured shift report covering current condition, recent
events, medications, feeds, equipment concerns and pending care.
● Follow safe handoff and escalation procedures when relief staff are delayed or
unavailable.
● Report incidents, medication errors, equipment concerns and suspected abuse
or neglect promptly through the appropriate channels.
Family partnership and professionalism
● Provide and reinforce education appropriate to the family’s needs, readiness and
the nursing care plan.
● Respect household routines, cultural preferences, privacy and professional
boundaries.
● Remain awake, attentive and available for care throughout the assigned shift.
● Maintain reliable attendance and promptly communicate scheduling concerns.
● Participate in supervision, competency reviews, required education and quality-
